I also wanted to coment on the person who was robbed twice in three weeks. I don´t understand how that could happen. I have tons of friends who have lived in Rio for 25 years and never been robbed. I´m on about week 2 1/2 and haven´t seen anything that would make me worried. Some people have told me I could pass for Brazilian, and I´ve had multiple people ask if I was, plus if I go out I´m usually with Brazilians. I don´t think I look Brazilian by any means, and neither do my Brazilian friends. But twice in three weeks, that´s some bad luck right there. I think the violence/robery in Rio is a little overstressed (Not saying you shouldn´t still be cautious). You just have to follow basic rules, that you probably already know. Just walk around confident and don´t look like a gringo.
