At 10 years old I was presented my first rifle. Dad taught me weapon discipline, and took me hunting that season. The next season I was allowed to go out on my own. Can you imagine now how many overprotective parents would even allow a gun in the house?
At 13 I was operating a morter mixer.
The only paper we had in the house was encyclopedia's and National Geographic magazines. For fun me and my bro used to split firewood. Parent's now wouldn't even let kids touch a go-devil. We had dirt bikes with the only rule was to wear a helmet. And to be back before dark. That let them know we were alright. After dark would have meant a search party.
Now and again I overstepped my bounds. Like the time mom found a molotov cocktail under my bed. I got beat for having something that could have burnt the house down and for using her lamp oil to make it. LOL. I wouldn't trade my upbringing or military service for anything. It made me the man I am today. God. Corps. Family. Country.
