I love those Japanese prank clips; however, there are two large mitigating factors to the "extremeness" of the Japanese pranks vis a vis Americans:

1. In Japanese shows, the parties involved are generally celebrities, even if down to C or D list
2. The violent crime rate in Japan is way lower than that of the United States, especially in certain areas of the U.S. and/or amongst certain demographics. For the former, these pranks are quite farcical--but for the latter--these "extreme" "pranks" are jest getting too close to the truth.
