On another note, be real careful about the taxi drivers late night. I was coming home last night (around 12:15) and guy totally tried to rip me off. This was after I had a 2-minute discussion with the dispatcher asking about a rough estimate about the cost which he said was around 900 dinars ($9 - about double the day rate).
The meter showed around 775 d when we stopped...then magically it went to 2990 (!) right after we stopped. I watched this go down and immediately was like NFW and started ranting at the driver. He was saying "night rate" etc but I was like "Bullshit". I threw him 1000 and just got out of the cab and said I'm reporting him to the police (in Russian and English)).
Guy kinda got mad, but after awhile I realized I was totally in the right and it was a scam, and furthermore that the guy was really looking a bit scared when I got out my phone and started lookiing at his license plate ready to jot down the number. He peeled out of there in no time and sped off.
Be careful out there!
