Colombian salsa is 100% DIFFERENT!

Yeah, Colombian salsa, especially in Cali, is different than anything I've seen. It kind of reminds me of "Kid and Play" with all the fancy footwork. i once saw a documentary that talked about how the Colombians used to play records at a faster speed and how that influenced Colombian salsa music and the way they dance.

The closest I've come to dancing with Colombians is Cumbia in Costa Rica, which is noting like the salsa. I hope to go to Cali one day to experience it first hand. I wanted to go to the big festival between Christmas and New Years but the flights are too expensive for my taste.

I dance NY Style mambo On2, but I used to dance a little bit of Casino Rueda and also LA style On1 so when I was in Cuba I could pretty much make it happen. They also danced Rumba, Son and other dances that predate Salsa so that was fun. You can actually get a dance education there if you are interested in the traditional dances that came from the shores of Africa all the way up to the modern dances of today.

IMO, one difference between Cuba and a lot of other places is the rich history and pride in culture there. In addition, the black Cubans tend to embrace their African roots as opposed to, for instance, Dominicans.
