GC, there are a fair number of foreigners in Shenzhen, but nothing like Shanghai or Manila, quantity wise. They tend to be grouped together in certain areas and also at certain nightspots. There are some backpackers, but I run across more who are (1) here for some business opportunity (like Indians and Pakistanis (Pakistanis are a decent sized group in Shenzhen), French, and a few English, Aussies, and Germans) or teaching (a lot of the Americans seem to be English teachers). I don't often see people obviously identifiable as backpackers in Shenzhen - perhaps thats because there isn't much sightseeing to be done here, few museums, and while there are beaches, why not head to Thailand for that.
Shanghai is a massive international destination. Shenzhen is a big Chinese city. While they both have massive Chinese populations (and many who emigrated from other parts of China), they are different animals. I don't think its comparable.

Strip away judeo-christian ethics ingraining sex is dirty/bad & the idea we're taking advantage of these girls disintegrates. Once you've lost that ethical quandary (which it isn't outside religion) then they've no reason to play the victim, you've no reason to feel the rogue. The interaction is to their benefit.
