Best cities/countries for Latino American guys??

Question to all Hispanic guys on this forum. When people in other countries ask you what your nationality is, what do you respond?

American
Mexican-American, Cuban American, etc...
Mexican, Dominican, Puerto Rican, etc...
Latino
Hispanic
From the US
From the United States

I had this problem when I went to Argentina. Being Hispanic from the US kind of fucked our identity up. I was asked where I was from and when I would say the United States, they would not believe me because my Spanish was very fluent and near native and my accent was clearly Mexican one. How do you guys combat this problem?

I am NOT of hispanic blood dissent, even though i speak Spanish fairly well by learning in college ... and subsequent practice ( so that makes me hispanic, no?) he he he..

Anyhow, Midwest, it seems to me that the way you formulated your question is a little bit ambiguous b/c sometime when people ask these kinds of questions (are we referring to girls asking?), they are really asking about something other than what they originally had phrased.

For example, they will ask, where are you from, and then you proceed to respond by saying i am from the USA, and they say that was not what they were asking.

Frequently, girls (and even guys sometimes) want to know about my family ancestry - whether it matters or not may be another good question. I frequently tend towards some variation of the truth, yet sometimes, I turn this into a game by giving some ridiculous answer - such as mexico or spain, and frequently the girl will say, oh really.. and I could play along, but usually, I do NOT play that for too long.

Other times we may want to get through the topic fairly quickly b/c we do NOT want to play any games with this girl , so we give some plausible answer that may or may not be the truth.

With a girl that i just met, and I am flirting, I think that a good idea will be to start out with a wrong, vague, but plausible answer, and see how that plays out. The subject may change along the way or it may trigger you to ask her questions about herself, and you may not get back to her question... however, other times, she may just keep getting back to asking the same question or some variation of the question. which may go to test and to demonstrate her level of interest in you.

If she is NOT playful, and you are still interested in her, then it is easy to come up with an answer that you are willing to live with, even if it is not true. You could say, that my great great grand father was from Mexico, and he moved to the USA in the 1800s... and i've been from the USA ever since... but of course, I do not look that old... I learned Spanish in elementary school.... and I was a fast learner. Whatever your story, it may NOT matter so much whether it is actually true.

Usually, I cannot keep up a false story that is too far off from the truth for too long b/c I am not very used to doing it - unless it is embedded in my head that I am going to tell the same story to every one.. from this point until the future... but that is just me.

My Spanish is NOT very good, so it is pretty rare that I get mixed up with native speakers, except for those times when I interact with girls who neither speaks good english nor good spanish, and those girls may believe that I am a native spanish speaker.
