I love these SF threads! I learn more about my city by reading these threads then by walking around my neighborhood.
SF is like 25 little cities in one. Each neighborhood is different.

What kind of people are you hanging out with?
We are one of the worlds leading producers of porn. We are one of the worlds major centers for pimping and prostitution. We are a world hub for human trafficking and slavery.
I am not proud of this stuff but it is the truth.

I agree with Rio. San Francisco is not a part of "NorCal".
On a map, it is, But, culturally, it might as well be a different planet.
Rio is from NorCal. I am from San Francisco with a lot of family in NorCal.
We are the ones who are most qualified to speak on this.
"NorCal" and SF are 2 completely different cultures.
If you have never been North of the Bay Area, then you have never experienced "NorCal".

However, personally, I have never experienced any of this stuff.
But, I will admit, I live in my own world. I pay no attention to girls who are not feminine, young, thin, and cute.
"Ultra Wing Feminist" is a language I don't speak and a world I don't operate in.
My sense is that these criticisms are "Stuff White People Like" criticisms.
Basically the conservative Whites get annoyed with the liberal Whites.
SF is over 30% Asian. Do these criticisms of gender roles reflect their views?
I don't think so. Most are quite traditional in their views of gender roles.
SF is over 20% Latino. Do these critisms reflect their views?
Hell no. Latinos are still very macho and value traditional gender roles.
SF is 6% Black. Do these criticisms reflect their views.
I doubt it.
What I see is conservative Whites arguing with liberal Whites. Nothing else.
And, here is the other thing...
Most of the those so called "ultra left wing feminist" weirdos are not from California. They are transplants from other parts of the country. Usually, they are from conservative places. That's why they come here and over compensate by acting all crazy.
All the crazy people from throughout America come to SF. They act crazy and give us a bad rep. But, mostly they are a product of other areas.
When you are talking to someone in SF, as them if they were born and raised here.
If they were not born and raised in San Francisco, then you are not talking to a San Franciscan.
