Jay I know what you mean, its good to be functional. I stopped trying to bench heavy, curl all the time and do high volume stuff as well. I did that when I was younger simply because I didn't know better, but really it is just body building workouts that make you slow and bulky with no real functional power. Now I will do some heavy squats, some lighter dumbell shoulder and bench, and the rest is done with actually using my own body and other's resistance against mine to build functional power.
