Question for you boxers. I'm beginning to take a real interest in the sport but have literally no experience at all. I'd like to start training as a hobby. I'm in pretty good shape, sub 10% body fat, 6 pack, etc. How should I go about starting?

Sign up for the boxing gym. No one will make you spar and / or fight a more experienced boxer anyway. For the first few weeks you will work on the technique, stance, basic punches, etc, then move to combos / defense, or you will move to muai thai / MMA / BJJ / Krav Maga.

I am assuming you are in your 20s and have no intention to be a professional boxer

BE VERY CAReful on boxing gyms. I boxed half my life. They absolutely WILL put u in the ring to spare with someone of more experience if you dont know the staff and things. Its a dick more but alot of gyms in DC and Baltimore were famous for doing this bullshit. They say they are testing heart early.. Its bullshit.

To avoid this make sure its a gym like a LA boxing or a gym in business for membership, and not trying to produce boxers form the street. If you get hurt, many times these hole in the walls... wont give a fuck.. but act like they do.... but places with big commercial names have money to loose.

Just a warning... they tried to do this to my cousin... but they didnt know he was a Ranger and ranked D1 wrestler in college, whose dad boxed in puerto rico(meaning his punishment involved alot of boxing drills and pain). He wore the dude out because he could plain fight and he was in way better condition.... but I have seen guys get fuckin hurt when they do that bullshit like its a joke. JUST BE CAREFUL.

LA fitness is too expensive. I can only afford the local boxing gym.
