Never ask. I learned this the hard way... it's kinda embarrassing actually. I had just transferred into a new college years back, and there were lots of girls that I wanted to meet. I met one and we hit it off, then the moment came when it was time to kiss. As I was leaning in, I said "I want to kiss you". Although it wasn't really a question, it was the way I said it that made it sound tentative. She ended up pulling back. To make matters worse, she told all the girls in her dorm about me, word spread faster than a California wildfire and that pretty much ruined my chances with any of them at least for the rest of the school year.
