I wrote many of my data sheets with getting points in mind. When I travelled, the only reason I took notes while I was travelling was because I could imagine getting points. Human beings ARE motivated by INCENTIVES.

No, it's about 99% of the human race.
We're competitive, self interested, and incentive driven creatures. Everything you are saying sounds decent in theory and would apply in an ideal world, but in our real one they have little bearing on practice. Incentives drive behavior-always have, always will.
You do not have to like this reality regarding human nature and its love of incentive, but it is what it is. Preaching repeatedly about "the love of the game" will not change this.
Know your enemy and know yourself, find naught in fear for 100 battles. Know yourself but not your enemy, find level of loss and victory. Know thy enemy but not yourself, wallow in defeat every time.
