I was in Egypt for a month in September and went to Cairo for a day to do the obligatory tourist stuff.
The tourists who visit are pretty closely guarded and we had a dude with a machine gun with us and there are police checkpoints to control access to all the touristy sites, hotels, etc. I left to go to a cafe to get an espresso and they chased me down and disuaded me from going because I'm not sure why exactly. Some bullshit about safety, etc.
In addition, Cairo is a huge clusterfuck of a city with glacial traffic. Takes forever to get anywhere.
That's my very limited impression from spending a day there. I saw very little talent.
