Choosing Where to Live in a City as an Expat

In a few months I’ll be moving to an Eastern European capital for work. I’m deciding on the best place to live. While my past inclination has been to live within walking distance of work, I think I’d now prefer to be in the center of the action, even though I’d have to commute more. Not even necessarily for night life, but just where a lot of cafes, bookstores, grocery stores are etc. There are a lot of opportunities for Day game! The city has some newer apartment buildings but they are further outside the city center. The older, commie block buildings (although renovated) in the center have much better logistics.

I’m wondering what you guys would recommend here. Obviously the initial inclination for guys on this forum will be to live in the city center, but keep in mind I will be working here for nearly two years. Moreover, Uber is cheap as hell and I can easily take a 10 minute ride into the center for $3. I’m also not concerned about prices as rent is affordable here.

Any thoughts would be much appreciated.
