Post-mortem criticism should not differ to still-alive-criticism.
Though in some cases - who really cares?
Even when I see a crazy warmonger like McCain - my condolences go out to his family who may miss him and who loved him, who saw a different side to him. Most people have that kind of experiences - even Hitler was kind to his co-workers, his dogs, his partners, supposedly to many people who met him. Does not mean that I won't be criticizing his life's errors.
Though some people are even worse than Hitler - really insane motherfuckers who kill and torture even their loved ones. In that case I say: "Well - I hope he will learn and do it better next time, because obviously in this life he was a lot of work."
As for loved ones - this story is good:
A woman dreamed that she met a wise man who asked her about her dad. The wise man asked her to take two pieces of paper and write down all the negative aspects, habits and things he does. Then on the other paper write all the positive ones. After she was done jotting it all down the wise man took the sheet with the negatives and said: "These will all pass and wither away in time." Then he pointed to the positive list and said: "These character points will stay and become stronger and more numerous." You can love the person for the positives despite all the negatives knowing that ultimately only the positives will win.
