I used to almost exclusively lift weights and didn't think body weight exercises had any place in serious strength training. Then I started traveling a ton and got sick of having to find gyms everywhere. I read "Naked Warrior" by Pavel and it changed the way I looked at resistance training. One of the biggest things I found was there's usually a way to use your own body weight in a mechanically disadvantaged way to make an exercise as difficult as you need it to be for building strength. The only thing I haven't found a good enough replacement for are deadlifts.
You can find bare bones outdoor gyms with pull up bars, dip bars, etc in most cities. I use this website wherever I go: https://calisthenics-parks.com/
