But you are more than willing to give up an even more valuable resource, (time and effort) for the same result.
And who says personal development can't happen when you "pay for it"? Time, money, effort, whatever the cost. Those things aren't mutually exclusive with becomming the person you want to be.
In fact I think the opposite is true, when you pay for things you free up time and effort that you can then use to broaden your horizons even further.
I have friends who refuse to pay for dry cleaning and laundry service. So they spend their sundays doing house work. I spend mine doing whatever I want while I pay someone to do mine. We both paid for it, and we both ended up with clean clothes, but I also got to go kayaking or whatever else I wanted that day.
All I had to lose was money, they lost a part of their life
