Excellent summary of the contradictory and vague details of the report.
In my opinion there's some degree of obfuscation going on. I don't know if it's fabricated and malicious, or completely naive.
I'm a proponent of the "multiple actors stole the data" theory and that someone else leaked the data. It's the only thing that makes sense at this point. Even if they did leak it, I don't buy the "It's manipulation" argument. Cyber Espionage has been part of the game for a long time now, and while it certainly shouldn't be accepted, it's ridiculous to frame it as a quasi act of war just because the corruption of the Democratic Party was leaked.
Biggest problem is that hardly anyone has the technical knowledge or motivation to look into that topic and people and politicians have to trust and rely on established IT Security specialists. And those say in whats technobabble for regular people that it's the Russian Government. And they actively manipulated the election by leaking the documents. Again, there is no evidence for that, but the narrative is believable. This is one of their biggest PsyOps strikes for that reason. Other wrong claims could be dismissed by providing blunt facts, but this more subtle.
The question is, if that's just the last movements of a dying cadaver or part of a bigger strategy to fuck things up. Keeping a cool head always wins in the long run.
