I love those riffs.
But anyway, learning modes and scales does't really mean you're a guitar player just yet. Little kids learn to sing scales and shit in elementary school before they ever even know how to pick up an instrument. THat's all a small part of being a good guitarist.

I'm not sure what OP has up his sleeve but there is an incredibly easy way to learn the different modes just by moving a major scale around the neck. That can cut down an incredible amount of time.
