There is so much hilarity around this idiocy, from Charlotee Rampling saying "Well maybe the black people didn't deserve it" to Julie Delpy saying she wished she was black because women are more oppressed than black people in Hollywood. Even more knee-spanking from the fact the Academy is scrambling to make its membership Affirmative Action and to say that if you haven't made a film for 10 years your membership is up. It's the latter point that'll do the most damage: it means the Academy then has no elder statesmen in it, no men or women who can see the long view of film and see what's new and what's just recycled hash. The Oscars are about to get even dumbed than they were.
