Fogel, like Cosby, was a respected and liked man. He was well-known person who gained respect for losing a shit-load of weight, so much so that a massive company called Subways hired him to be their SPOKESPERSON ! In other words, they wanted HIM to represent a multi-billion dollar business. That is a big deal. The person who is to represent a multi-billion dollar business better be very likeable and respectable to a lot of people.

He may not be your or my idea of charismatic and respected, but for business pros who needed the fate of their multi-billion dollar enterprise to be well represented, he did the job.

You need to do your research.

One guy is Jared Fogel:

* Lost a lot of weight and because of an article his dorm-mate wrote (he would've been a nobody if not for his dorm-mate getting him noticed).
* Was Subway Spokesman for ~15 years.
* He also created a charity, but it was a scam:

The other guy is Bill Cosby:

* Cosby created, produced, and hosted the animated comedy television series Fat Albert and the Cosby Kids, a show that ran from 1972 to 1985.

* After attending Temple University in the 1960s, he received his bachelor's degree there in 1971. In 1973 he received a master's degree from the University of Massachusetts Amherst, and in 1976 he earned his Doctor of Education degree, also from UMass.

* Cosby produced and starred in a television sitcom, The Cosby Show, which aired from 1984 to 1992 and was rated as the number one show in America for five years, 1984 through 1989

* Standup Career - He booked dates in cities such as Chicago, Las Vegas, San Francisco, Washington, D.C.. He received national exposure on NBC's The Tonight Show in the summer of 1963. This led to a recording contract with Warner Bros. Records, who, in 1964, released his debut LP Bill Cosby Is a Very Funny Fellow...Right!, the first of a series of comedy albums.

* Younger, well-established comics like Jerry Seinfeld have credited Cosby as an innovator both as a practitioner of the genre of standup comedy, but also as a person who paved the way for comics to break into sitcom television. Seinfeld said of Cosby: "He opened a door for all of us, for all of the networks to even consider that this was a way to create a character, was to take someone who can hold an audience just by being up there and telling their story. He created that. He created the whole idea of taking a quote-unquote 'comic' and developing a TV show just from a persona that you see onstage.

* Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame awarded in 1977.

I would say they are far from different and anyone who has seen a few subway commercials with Jared and also seen even one of Bill's standup routines or one of his many shows or films would easily be able to discern the large difference in charisma between the two.
