I'm very much in favour of people working on their bodies, their fashion, their looks and their finances, but never once have I came home and thought to myself that any of the above were the reason I didn't pull. Anytime I've lost a girl it's because I didn't persevere enough, wasn't agressive / dominant enough, wasn't confident and at ease enough, or simply because of logistics.
