I think women in long term relationships start to fear the fact that they are getting older, and mentally prepare themselves to accept the fact that they are not going to get any sexier. So, when their spouse starts boosting their attractiveness via working out, improving looks/style, etc. etc, the woman subconciously tries to bring her husband back to her level by overly reassuring him that she loves him "just the way he is" because as group based creatures, women want the person to reflect their values.

Men who continue to work out even into older age will continue to have options. Women who settle and marry and age, no matter how much they work out, aging will occur and they'll lose options.

In my opinion , women will never run out of options. Unless she's no longer fertile and therefore no sexual appetite .
