When I'm at the bars and clubs around here, I tend to get asked a lot whether or not I'm a sports fan. When I tell them I'm not, it tends to get a negative reaction, and there have been multiple occasions where the girl flat out told me that not being a sports fan was a dealbreaker for her. This question will typically come up at least once or twice every night I go out, and if there was a game on that night, the number increases drastically and takes on much more significance to the person asking. so my question is, what is a good way to deal with these situations? should I just learn a few things about the local sports teams, enough to talk for a couple minutes before changing topics, or is there a better way?

Forget about sports don't be like every other guy. I'll watch the playoffs and CL final for sure, but when I go out it's the last thing on my mind. When I used to bet on sports 24/7 it was a different mindset completely. But I'm over that stage of my life.

when I go out, I often get asked if I'm a sports fan. I say I don't watch sports, expressing no discomfort. however, the reaction I tend to get is either the girl/girls look at me in disbelief, like I have a turd on my lip, or they occasionally will flat out tell me that it's a deal breaker for them if I don't like sports.

I have more important things to do with my time than sit in front of a tv watching sports. I'm trying to do well in my doctoral program, which will enable me to get a six figure starting salary anywhere in the country in three years, assuming I do well. I'm also learning new skills, like new songs to play on my guitar, new dishes to cook, a new language, improving my fashion sense, learning game...or I'm out doing things, like talking to girls, working out etc. evidently, many girls around here prefer guys who spend a lot of time drinking beer and staring/yelling at a tv screen over guys who do the kinds of things I do. I don't really care, I just want to take them home for the night and fuck them, so as long as I had some way to deflect the conversation in a different direction, or just expressed a basic knowledge of the local sports, it really wouldn't matter. all I really care about is if it will get me laid more often or not.

so my question is not if it will make me more attractive if I like sports. my question is how to bypass this particular problem. if anyone else has actually been in this situation and has a good way of dealing with it, please let me know. I'm not interested in anyone's opinions really, I only want advice that will help me succeed at what I'm trying to accomplish.

You can know nothing about any sport and carry on a conversation with a sports fan.

its not hard to learn a little bit about each of the major sports and talk like you know something. especially with girls for crying out loud. just watch a couple games and listen the commentary and read up about something you dont understand

a. you're running out of stuff to say
and
b. you're not being playful enough

again, I'm not interested in anyone's opinions about my game, especially from people who clearly did not read the entire thread or understand what I'm asking about. if you didn't even read and correctly understand the thread, and you've never seen my game, then clearly your opinion about it means absolutely nothing to me, since you're basing it entirely off a couple paragraphs which you failed to read and interpret correctly. I'm looking for advice on how to handle a particular situation that comes up often, and so far one person has given me helpful advice. the rest of you "experts" have given me absolutely nothing of value.

Don't dismiss what these guys are saying out of hand.

Think about why you're there.

If you're there to talk and have a good time, maybe go farther, follow my advice.

If you want anything "genuine" if that even exists anymore, start following sports for real.

If you just want to score, the other guys have given good stuff.

Only 1 to 2% of women know enough about any particular sport to challenge even the casual male fan and those chicks probably aren't attractive anyway. In any case, you have a couple of options:

(1.) Learn enough about your local sports teams that you can have a very shallow conversation. Look up who the best players are on the team, the team's biggest rivals, and the coach's name. That will get you through just about every conversation with some girl that claims to be a "fan."

(2.) Do the same thing you do with any other subject girls ask you about where you couldn't give a shit. Give a smart ass answer and quickly change the subject to something that will move the conversation along.
Girl: "Did you see what happened on (lame ass reality show) last week?"
You: "Nope, I only watch reality shows where a female character in the show has made a sex tape. (Change subject)"

If girls are blowing you out because you said you're not into sports, you need to pick different venues.

Assuming that you're in the USA, wow, that's probably a sign of how scarily masculine your girls are. Over here, no one would give me shit for not following any sports or being a fan (I watch world finales and occasionally our national team every 4 years). In fact, most girls find it refreshing that football isn't my life like it is for most guys.

Plum seats at hot ticket sporting events can useful though, right?

Its hard to believe that lack of sports knowledge could be the force stopping you from closing but if you think it will help you watch sportscenter once a week- It covers all the major sports, that should be more than enough.

I'm not going to suggest you muster up interest in sports if they truly don't interest you, just so certain girls won't rule you out. I'd state simply that you don't watch/read about sports, and stick by it. If a chick reacts strangely, make a conversation out of that. Turn it back on her - ask her flat-out why she finds that odd. Joke about it even. If it's a dealbreaker for her, and she can't even have a conversation with you because of it, BYE. Don't let this kind of thing affect YOU enjoying yourself. If it's really becoming an issue that prevents you from connecting with people, change the kinds of venues that you hang out in.

I'm from st Louis missouri...I've seen it come up on the rooshv site and forum multiple times as one of the worst pussy wastelands in the country, comparable to DC or toronto. unfortunately, I'm stuck here for another three years, so I'm trying to make the most of it. just curious, where are you from?

yeah, I agree with pretty much everything you just said. that's pretty much what I've been doing...usually I either change the topic or I leave and open another set. it might be kinda fun to turn it around on them though like you said. and yeah, a different venue would be nice, but pretty much all the ones I've been to in this area I've run into this problem. it doesn't happen enough to be a really serious problem though, mostly it's just a nuisance. thought maybe there was a more suave way I could be dealing with it.

I'm from Croatia... where the girls are very americanized and feminism is going strong, but it hasn't reached the level of USA yet... and on the plus side, they're very pretty and still mostly thin.

Women are getting more and more interested in sports, and probably enjoy spending weekdays in the fall at football parties, etc.
