Guys, can we keep this thread "football only"?

What you mean? Everything in this thread so far has been "football only".

It would bee cool to see a portugal argentina final, going all the way to penalties, then mesi missing the penalty and portugal with ronaldo winning.

It would be the ultimate final.

If Argentina plays like that 0-6 loss against Spain, their chances are not great!

I have Brazil as favourites, with Portugal as the dark horse.

They still have Santos, who is a pragmatic coach, and they have Ronaldo. I think they can hurt a lot of teams.

I do not think Lopetegui’s dismissal is as bad as some believe, although I would’ve liked to see Spain perform well under a manager from my province. The team has been left in good hands, and it’s not as if Hierro were a complete newcomer to team; his managerial talent is unproven, as was Zidane’s, but the players respect him, having effectively grown up during his years playing for Real Madrid and the national team. Many will recall his marvellous goal against Switzerland in 1994. In any case, the players remain despite Lopetegui’s departure. De Gea, who was selected in 2014 but did not play, and Isco will be debuting ― and with any luck, we’ll do better than in that god-awful display against the Dutch.

But if we don’t do well, I hope England and Portugal do well. A good performance from Argentina would be desirable, but it’s not happening; they had their go in Brazil.

Uruguay 1 - 0 Egypt

I am gladly surprised with the play and attitude Egypt showed, very positive. I have to admit that its the first time I watched them played, but I didn't expect much from this team before the game. They have to work on capitalizing the good play in the defense and midfield, and they could make it to the 2nd Round. Uruguay let Egypt take the infinitive, and they paid a high price for it. Uruguay won in an agonizing last minute goal; I expect them to show better football starting 2nd Round. Both these teams have the raw material to beat Russia and Saudi; let's see what happens.

Specialization is for insects."

Russia and Uruguay will go through. Salah is not fit after dislocating his shoulder 3 weeks ago. That's the minimum needed to recover from a shoulder dislocation and even then he will hesitate to go into challenges. I don't think he'll be a factor.

I think Portugal will beat Spain tonight. Ronaldo will sink them.

How has Godin not been poached by Barca or Real in the last 5 years?

Barcelona want ball playing defenders (he's not a bad passer but it's not his best attribute) while I don't think he wants to go to Atletico's city rivals.

He's a dirty, physical, old school defender. Him and Chiellini are the only two of those left around.

I stuck £5 on Spain to win at the bookies about 15 minutes ago and just walked in the door as Ronaldo was preparing to take the penalty.
This game is not going in the direction I was hoping for

The election of a feminist government in Spain has butt-fucked their players prematurely.

Portugal needs to punish those feminists.

Firing their coach 2 days ago was also pretty dumb. Anyways Ronaldo is taking care of them.

He's overrated.

Oblak and Alison are better.

Ronaldo is a fuckin legend!!!

I am a bit disappointed though. Spain played much better, Portugal was Ronaldo plus 10.

I had some high hopes in the youngsters Gonçalo Guedes, Bernardo Silva and Bruno Fernandes, but today they showed that they are still very green for this. We need to field the more experienced players that won the Eurocup like Adrien Silva, Joao Mario and Quaresma.

In the defense though is the opposite, Fonte looks old and slow, maybe because of playing now in China he lost the rythm in this part of his career, I would bet on the young Ruben Dias. Also Cedric can be easily replaced with Ricardo Pereira, much more fast and a bigger offensive threat.

And Patricio. Very underrated.

He is free and Liverpool needs a keeper. They must be sleeping.

If Spain can't deny Ronaldo, who can? All of Portugal's remaining matches in the World Cup will only get easier.

Was an interesting match, but stronger teams should be able to beat them both.
