3. Any genre, its up to you to pick.

4. Must be one individual not a group.

I have thought about this question for almost two decades and I will post my answer once someone else does post the same name independently.

For my personal taste — Hans Zimmer. Anyone can sing and write songs. Not too many people have what it takes to compose and direct musicians , choruses, and instrumental ensembles alike while also evolving with the modern day. John Williams comes in second but he’s a bit too conservative for my taste.

Jacob Seales.

Bob Dylan. I chose him for his influence, and continued work. He tours extensively every year. As a single man, I think no living single person has had as much of an influence on music, than Bob Dylan.

Paul McCartney. He attracts a lot of haters but the guy's longevity is amazing.

Well since Chuck Berry is dead, i'll go with the legendary Keith Richards of the Rolling Stones. Just the fact that he's still alive after partying like he has for 50 years is a miracle.











Thom Yorke of Radiohead would be up there for me too.

He is permanently hoarse now compared to the old days (probably has untreated nodules like so many older rock singers). It makes it where he can still do stuff like Maybe I'm Amazed or Twist and Shout but when he has to sing softer numbers his voice is scratchier than it should be. But you gotta give him credit for going out on tour again and again even though he could have retired long ago. (Of course, he's also a good example of blue-pill thinking the way he got taken to the cleaners by Heather Mills.)

I'm completely serious about this. What I mean by the "greatest living musician" is the one who is producing the greatest music right now; of course there are great musical geniuses who are still alive who have produced the unthinkably overwhelming musical bounty of the past 50 years -- but while still alive, they are no longer living musicians.

Seales is the best of anyone I know who is creating music right now -- he has written what I consider to be great music within the last few years, some of the freshest and most unplaceable contributions in a while and during a period when entire musical genres are otherwise completely dead, just as dead as film for example. And it's not a matter of Trump rally / RSBN sentimentality either; although it's certainly no accident that Seales' tunes were married to those other great and restorative energies, they stand on their own and I can evaluate them as such. I believe that he will be very widely known one day.
