I've been considering getting one in white ink. I have light skin so it would just about show but would still be very discreet and unusual. They're slightly elevated which makes them look a bit like scars.
Not many tattoo artists can do them well though. And I don't like the idea of them getting popular and every hipster from Brooklyn to San Francisco suddenly rocking one.

I really want to get sleeves and go crazy on my chest and back but I'm worried about jobs. I guess I can wear long sleeves when I need to but still. I don't know if it's the best idea. Does anyone have a lot of visible tattoos?

Lot's of visible tats = bad idea.
I have 5 tattoos none are visible, unless I wear a tank top. It's cool, because no one suspects that I have tattoos, no problems with jobs, people stereotyping, etc.
Having lot's of visible tats will definitely hurt your job prospects, unless you don't care and plan on working some job like a chef or an auto mechanic, where having tats won't necessarily disqualify you.
Also, when you are heavily tatted people will make all sorts of assumptions about you, you definitely don't want the I just got out of a 10 year jail stint look.

I would never get one myself. Not that I have anything against them per se, I just don't want to get something then end up hating it in 15 years. If they were easy to remove, I might be more open to it, but it's the permanence of it that keeps me away. If you are going to get something, it should be something timeless and that won't look dated in a decade.
What do y'all think about girls who get tattoos? My feelings are all or nothing. I usually hate tattoos on chics, esp if it's a stupid ankle tattoo or tramp stamp. But if she goes all out, it can look sexy as hell. I think tattoos work well if a chic has that sultry goth or punk look:

Why is it a FAIL? You don't root for the Cowboys anymore? Is it because Tony Romo is a pussy?

Though I've never felt compelled to get one, I have no real objection to tattoos. I think they're cooler if they're self-designed and significant to the individual (picking some stock image out of a book, or something common seems kind of weak to me). I'll admit to being shocked when I see someone so covered that I can't see their actual skin color. That's a HUGE commitment, because that's YOU until the grave. For people that work in the arts, or some job where your looks won't matter, it's fine. For others, you need to get tats that can be easily covered (I worked at a law firm that didn't allow visible tattoos - a chick I worked with had one on her lower leg, and had to wear one of those huge bandaids to cover it under her stockings if she wore a skirt or dress. It looked stupid).
The one tat that is particularly stupid is the name of your current significant other, because inevitiably it will have to be removed or covered (Johnny Depp famously got a "Winona Forever" tat when he was banging Winona Ryder, and he had to have it reworked to read "Wino Forever").

I know someone who has a white collar job and is covered everywhere. He told me just don't touch my hands or neck. I might have an employer fire me once they hire me and I walk in with a short sleeve lol

Chad - that's what I was thinking. Show up with a long sleeve button up until you get in the door.

Agreed, normally I don't like chicks with tats but her's are oddly attractive (minus the skull).
I once dated a girl with quite a few tattoos. At first it was kind of cool, not necessarily more attractive but just different. After a couple weeks I didn't even notice them at all and never really thought about them much again unless they were specifically brought up by someone else.

Surprised at the amount of positive response's when the word 'tribal' even gets mentioned.
Where im from that is major major douche material and most women i have met or currently hang with think its the worst kind of tattoo ever....
Not hating if thats what your into, everyone has a different opinion and appreciation for body art, especially with so many styles from all around the globe becoming more mainstream.
Whatever ink you do get though, make sure it really means something or is at least different to anything you see on anyone else.Take your time and find respected, talented and honest artists.

I have a sleeve and a half-sleeve. It doesn't hurt job prospects, though I work in science wherein cohorts and superiors tend to be more liberal anyway. Girls like them.
If you get them, get them big; small ones look like crap.

For all the travelers - how do girls in other countries react to the tats? I'm guessing tattoos are mainstream pretty much all over the world...

Most people have trendy tattoos and/or shitty quality ones. Take a good look next time you go out at everyone's tattoos. See how many retarded quotes, chinese letters, tramp stamps, stars, and tribal designs you can count. You will stand out if you have high quality shit on your body.

Personally I think having a bodywide motif helps as well. Mine is stone, both my tats are done to look like they're made out of old worn stone, which goes with the use of Norse runes in my tattoos. All of my planned tats will have the same style as well, I think it gives your body as a whole continuity, rather then just being a hodge podge of random symbols

Tattoos aren't all created equal. In a sense they are an exteriorization of a person's personality, taste, self-image among many other things; it can be either DHV or the opposite of DHV, whatever that's called.

you will look trendy if you get a bunch of colorful tattoos. something about them on guys just dont look right idk. i dont think looking like this when you take your shirt off will ever be mainstream. you'll still shock the guy with a tribal tattoo on his arm and the red and green stars on each elbow.
russian prison tattoos
i like when each individual tattoo is split up like this instead of a collage
