Timothy Jr. (TJ)
Duke
Arsène Lupin (fictional French thief)
Maurice (after Rave and the author of Arsène Lupin)
Ludwig (after Beethoven)
Antonio (after Vivaldi)
Gustav (after Holst)
Elgar (yes, named after the British classical musician best known for Pomp and Circumstance)

And no, I refuse to name any future biological son "Arthur", because the namesake is a CUCK!

Joey Joe Joe Junior Shabbadoo.

Don't pick a name you like, pick a name he can live with. If your kid is going to school with a far-out name, or the name of some obscure ancient, he will be bullied and it will affect his life. It's HIS name, he should be happy to bear it. He probably won't share your love of history or appreciate the significance of your choice when he's having his school bag emptied in the playground by bullies because he's got a 'silly' name.

Also, if you choose a short first name, pick a longer middle name. E.g. If his name is Jack, don't pick Max for his middle name. William or Alexander would be better.

Don't fuck about with traditional spellings, that shit is for strippers and welfare folk.

Calling him 'Butch', 'Ace', or 'Leonidas' will be putting a lot of pressure on him...what if he's a quiet nerd?

Basically, just remember that it HIS name, not your own selfish choice because you've got a hard-on for some guy from the past.

Alexander.

It's a great name, international, plenty of cool nicknames. Not a lot of chance of him being teased because of his name.

I always think of the scene from the movie The Sure Thing (1985).

She wants to name her future son Elliot, but John Cusak prefers Nick. A funny scene...

When I have a son, his first name is going to be David, after my father. He was a great man. Less importantly, it's a classic, simple name.

Middle name, I'm not so sure on. He'll probably take his middle name from someone who's been a massive influence on me. Marcus for Marcus Aurelius, Adam or Peter for two of my best friends and mentors, or Steven as Stevie Wonder's one of my favorite musicians (yeah, his first name is Stevland, but I don't like that name). I also like Karl a lot; my mother's family is from Austria so using the Germanic form to represent them seems fitting.

Alexander. A name kids won't make fun of in school, won't get weird looks when he goes for job interviews, yet is named after a total badass.

I've been thinking about boy's names again. I had my first son 4 months ago and with my wife being pregnant, I'm considering names. (Note we don't know what the gender is yet.)

I named our first son Julius after Julius Caesar. (My wife chose his middle name after her father's - Michael.)

I've been thinking about bringing bad some of the great and famous names of the past - specifically either in Western history or great men across history in general. (My wife objects to Ghengis.) I'm also considering using some of the last names of these men as first names.

So some ideas I've had are: Charlemagne, Leonidas, Ramses, Augustine, Cortez, Boethius, Cicero, Geoffrey (Chaucer), Ferdinand, Benedict, Pascal, Tocqueville, Napoleon, Akhenaten, Aleric, Augustus, Attila, Cato, Hannibal, Darius, Hippocrates

I also like the idea of "Khan" or Caesar as either a first name or middle name.

Thoughts and suggestions?

What names have you gentlemen considered for your future sons?

My wife and I looked up names that are uncommon, but NOT WEIRD.

Given that I already have at least one son, we looked at in general, classical English/American names from the 1800s.

Arthur
Edward
Harold
Marcus
Max
Richard
Vincent
Victor

I would suggest using Roman Emperor names for a middle name. I couldn't sell them to the wife as a first name, but you can get a lot more creative for middle names, and in our case, add an extra one or two.
