Last one of the day: the RVF hip hop anthem.

I got a girlfriend, she broke my heart
Now every night, I rip a different piece of pussy apart
Straight sport, fuck it
She's a whore, fuck it
Treat her like a piece of shit till I kick the bucket

Lil Wayne just announced the Carter V album dropping tonight after almost a 7 year wait since his last Carter(damn I'm getting old). In that time span he has seen Drake (the man who has a tattoo of his face....) completely overshadow his career, it will be interesting to see if this gets him some of his spotlight back.

In other hiphop news, Kanye is set to drop his 3rd album of the year on Saturday.

2018 will go down as a benchmark year in hiphop releases,

We've already got new albums from major artists like:

Drake
Nicki
Lupe
J.cole
Kanye (3)
Nas
Eminem
Pusha T
Kid Cudi
Travis Scott
Asap Rocky
Lil Wayne

Many of these were highly anticipated releases and I'm sure I've missed a couple.
I'm guessing T.I. will have something new around Christmas time and maybe Big Sean or Meek.

Yeah good point. Lil Wayne was all the rage in all the nightclubs & radio when I was out partying hard in my mid to late 20's (that era that you referred to when he was last dropping albums). He was highly influential to the younger trap / drill generation of rappers that soon followed & continue to this day. But I would argue that his punchlines, bars & lyrical wordplay were generally notches above the typical trap rapper of today.

Don't know how I'd forgotten this track for years, just randomly stumbled on it now. One of the best west coast beats that I've heard.

No doubt, "Keep Their Heads Ringin" by Dr. Dre was a signature song off of the Friday soundtrack (the cult classic film featuring Ice Cube, Chris Tucker, John Witherspoon).

Man, I've been on a DMX binge past few days, One More Road To Cross is such an epic tune. He represents, rightly or wrongly, that point in the 1990s where rappers could say anything and get away with it. And with DMX, as opposed to say Eminem with his Slim Shady stuff, you believed him.

Here's a few choice lyrics from the top of my head, I'm sure there's worse!

"If you got a daughter older than 15, I'm gonna rape her /
Take her, on the living room floor, right there in front of you/
Frustrating isn't it? Wanna kill me, but I'm kill you/
Now watch me fuck just a little while longer please, will you?"

"You're gonna wonder how it feels to watch your mom squeal as I hit her with the steel"

"... empty a clip of hollow tips into your daughter's face"

Looks like Tekashi69 is done. RICO charges against his gang. He crossed that line between playing gangster to actually doing illegal shit now he's going to get stuck with the violent things his gang did simply through affiliation.

I really like his song "gummo" even though everyone else in the industry hates him. He had a bobby schmurda type career of about 1 year.

Make no mistake, he was currently the most polarizing figure in all of modern day popular "hip hop". It does appear that he is royally screwed unless he somehow miraculously beats the charges. I wasn't particularly a fan of the guy, his screaming rap flow, or his extreme troll antics. Nonetheless I am curious to see how the whole thing will pan out. This lawyer seems to have some odd insight (from being within proximity of the bail hearing):

Quote:Quote:

[Intro]
When you wake up this morning
I want you to go to the mirror
And I want you to look at yourself in the eyes and say
Fuck you, fuck your hopes, fuck your dreams, fuck all the good you thought this life was 'gon bring you
Now lets got out there and make this bitch happy

New Tigallo, New Tigallo, New Tigallo, New Tigallo

[Verse 1]
Up early with the sun, and the stars, 6 A.M. ring the alarm
Weather man say "it's 90 today but it gon' feel like 100 tomorrow
So throw some fresh water under the arms"
Bullshit soon as I come in the job
Boss hit me with the news like a box-cutter under the jaw
Said "they just had a meeting and about 3 hundred
Of y'all gettin fired cuz we been defunded"
Can't say I didn't even see it coming
I always knew that one day, they'd find a way to throw me to the wolves
And once they, came into my room on that Friday afternoon I was thinkin
"why you faggot ass niqqas couldn't find me on Monday"
I know it's not sane, but yo I'm just sayin
Everybody prays for the day they see the light
But the light at the end of the tunnel is a train
5 dollar gas, and poverty rates, are rising much higher than your hourly rates
So if you thinkin 'bout quittin you should probably wait
Cuz everybody gotta do a fuckin job that they hate
"Go and live out your dreams" thats what they tellin
Fam in my ear all day and they yellin
"Keep it real Te", and don't ever sellout
But how the fuck you sell out when ain't nobody sellin?

Quote:Quote:

Phontigallo for dolo
Smile for the camera, nigga, pose for the photo
Pause for the promo
Cause failure's a no-no
Back on my fly shit
So green with envy, kiss me, I'm Irish
Niggas be asking me "Who we got to ride with? "
They saying "Come back Tay, we been cravin'"
We need LB to come and save the rap game
But, truthfully
I don't think the shit needs savin'
I think we got wives and sons that need raisin'
New dreams to fill and for that, we need patience
Twenty-one years old, I used to slang verses
But ten years later, I am not the same person
Whole new perspective, not the same purpose
And sometimes I have to question if I even want it
Not mad at the game cause it is what it is
And not mad at the radio cause I don't know what's on it
Be in my own universes when I be doing verses
Burn 'em down like the Klan used to do to churches
Back in the day in my town, nigga
Don't come around if you a clown nigga, then go and do the circus
First, do the knowledge, then do the purchase
Understand why, against me, a coup is worthless
Battle Tay?
That's the dumbest shit I ever heard since
Ex-hoes claiming that they're born-again virgins
Feeling like a born-again version
Of myself, thought I left the shit I used to listen to
'Til one day, I was playing my old shit like
"Who the fuck is this? I kind of miss this dude."
It's the same old Tigga that slowed your whole movement
And y'all dudes just all show and no provin'
And honestly, I like what them young boys is doin'
But my niggas like "Tay, they close, but no Cuban"
Like I was the chosen
One for flowin'
I'm done, the rap game's No Country For Old Men
I'll always spit whenever the spirit hits me
But fuck if I'm a be doing this shit when I'm sixty
And that's no disrespect to KRS
I'm just trying to make my art and do what's smart
I'm saying
Rapping Tay, four-and-half-mic honoree
Or singing Tay, first-time Grammy nominee
Nigga, you do the math
Nigga, you add it up
That's on my mind when I press record
A lot of niggas probably mad at me
But I would rather be a lonely wolf than a sheep that's bored
So fuck it

This is from the soundtrack for the movie, Bulworth. Still a pretty good song 20 years after it was released.

Dipset just dropped a new album called "Diplomatic Ties" 9 songs deep. It's not the "entire" crew, just Cam, Juelz, Jimmy and Freaky Zeekey.

Cam has some sloppy verses and Juelz sounds weird with that lisp but it's a good album overall. Wish that Hell Rell and J.R. were still in the group though

Lupe Fiasco makes a comeback with DROGAS WAVE (2018) after releasing the widely panned DROGAS LIGHT (2017) last year (never listened once).

I'm mostly into metal, but I enjoy rap music in the right setting such as when going out or pre-gaming. However, and I'm not sure if it's because I'm getting older and/or starting to reject even more of what mainstream society thrusts upon the populace, I have trouble stomaching the glorification of hard drugs in rap. It used to not be big deal, I don't mind references to drinking and pot smoking but now it's all about pills and lean, etc. I'm sure it's a multifaceted issue involving problems with society and young people being more depressed than ever, but I don't get it. Here are some links if anyone is interested in looking at it further
