Twitter post about credit card commercial

The story behind the post that Roosh linked to http://whiskeys-place.blogspot.com/2012/...riage.html about the climbers in the commercial is not quite as Madison avenue would lead you to believe, although it is infinitely more interesting.

The climbers in question, both acquaintances of mine are Alex Honnold and Katy Brown. I know Alex better than Katy. Both are climbers at the highest levels of the game. Alex in particular has pushed the boundaries of free-soloing, climbing without a rope or any sort of protective equipment to prevent death in case of a fall, to unheard of levels recently.

Here is a 60min feature on Alex and his exploits. Alex is the furthest from "beta" that you could possibly imagine.

Katy is also a high caliber climber and at one time was competing at the highest levels internationally.

A good friend of mine did all the rigging for the shoot outside of Moab told me the general feeling from my friends that were involved was..."Hell yeah! We just made a shit load of easy cash and we can continue the endless summer!" He made 4000$ for two days of rigging. I'm sure the "talent" made significantly more.

The climbing community is, in general, pretty stoked that two of our own are getting paid. Climbing is mostly a thankless and money-less pursuit.

I'm sure they're cool people, but they are actors in a commercial that implies something that may be very different than their values. Here's the commercial for those who missed it:

And the commentary: http://whiskeys-place.blogspot.com/2012/...riage.html

I do think it's funny how the girl arrives at the top, alone, with the dude trailing behind. Women are so empowered!

When I first saw this commercial I thought, cool Alex is making bank on this. I never really even noticed the overtones. I'm so used to climbing with chicks that crank hard that seeing a woman lead and summit is pretty normal. Climbing is a sport where women can climb as hard or harder than the guys. Interesting to see other peoples take on it.

The route they're on is called Ancient Art. Here's a photo I took of my buddy on the summit. As you can see, there's not room for more than one person at a time.
