So there is a good chance that the new sheriff of San Francisco a liberal man of Iranian heritage, will be charged with domestic violence after an incident that occured on new year's eve. It was the next door neighbor (a woman) that reported it to the police.
Apparently Mr. Mirkarimi's wife, "the victim", publicly says that her husband did nothing wrong and does NOT want charges to be pressed. Here is the article:

The thing that really pisses me off about the state of California, is that the state is the one who presses the charges, even if the "victim" does not want charges to be pressed.
Therefore, you can get into an argument with your girlfriend, she can be acting psychotically and violently, you put your hand on her to restrain her....
The neighbors here yelling and screaming, they call the police.... The police show up and see a red mark on her arm... Next thing you know, you're being thrown into a police car, arrested for domestic violence... And you better pray you can come up with the $2500 to post bail, or you maybe sitting in jail for a while to your arraignment.
