Romney or Santorum?

Romney or Santorum?

I've been a Republican all my life. Now I ask my Republican brothers' opinion on Mitt Romney & Rick Santorum, who would you rather see as the president & why?

Well I am most definitely not a Republican, but I'd say the best canidate is Ron Paul.

Romney & Santorum are both quite conservative, that's what I like about them. I cannot say the same about Ron Paul.

Romney has it wrapped up. He might not win every primary (i.e. South Carolina), but he has the most money, the most organized and well-managed campaign, and he is the most competitive candidate in a face off with Obama.

I'm curious to see who he chooses as VP. That's going to be important. It would be interesting if he tapped Marco Rubio from Florida to take that role. Might be a competitive ticket.

I don't know why anyone is still a Republican or a Democrat, but whatever. Honestly, there really isn't any difference between those guys so it wouldn't matter. All mainstream candidates are basically the same. Whoever it is will just keep the status quo right where it is so the military industrial complex machine can keep on stacking massive paper.

I would say that Romney is more electable to the general public than Santorum, but Obama is going to win regardless because Ron Paul will run as an independent and probably get 12-15 million popular votes, most of which would have gone to the Republican candidate.

Santorum's tone is horrible. Very unlikable.

Ron Paul has said repeatedly he doesn't plan to run as an independent if he's not the GOP nominee.

Marco Rubio would make a great VP if given the opportunity. I read today that one of Romney's advisers thinks that Jon Huntsman might be a good candidate.

This was the stupidest post of the day.

Conservatives have gotten so far away from what it actually means to be conservative that we've branded the only REAL one running a liberal.

I'd like to see both Romney and Santorum drop out of the race.

Jon Hunstman is a very reasonable and moderate Republican (he even worked in the Obama administration), but the problem with that ticket is that neither of those guys can summon the conservative base they will need to win, particularly the evangelicals--both guys are Mormons.

Rubio has bona fide conservative credentials and is a rising star in the party, while Romney's moderate record as Governor of MA would help him with independents and moderates in swing states. Rubio can make up for Romney's weakness among conservatives, but there runs a possible risk that he could alienate independents who both Obama and Romney would need support from in large numbers to win.

Obama is beatable, but it will be far from easy. Obama has no problem raising large amounts of cash and he has a built-in organization being the incumbent. He's also a worldwide cultural icon.

Dude if you have nothing good to say then don't say anything. Both Santorum & Romney don't believe in gay marriage, and that is defenitely a good thing.

Gay Marriage isn't really an issue I'm worried about. The government's giant paws taking over industry after industry in America is what I'm worried about - and Paul is the only one with a conservative answer to that.

Romney is about as liberal as you can be and still be branded a republican, and Santorum doesn't really have the testicular fortitude (IMO) to be the most powerful man in the free world.

It just seems to me that the only person who is running for a reason other than "to be president" is Ron Paul. He's also the only truly conservative candidate.

But, I'll go ahead and be on my way.

You really give a fuck about gay marriage? Are you super Christian or do you just really hate faggots?

And yea, mainstream Republicans of today are about as conservative as Roosh is feminist.

Agreed.

Ron Paul is the only true conservative, and more importantly the least corrupt and most honest.

We need to stop with this "I am a republican", "I am a democrat" stuff.

Both groups are the biggest scumbags on earth.

As far as Romney and Santorum, both are no heart, chicken hawk cowards that I wouldn't hire to shine my shoes.

Santorum vs Obama: Guaranteed Obama win. Santorum does not have the magic needed to get elected.

Romney vs Obama: Romney has a chance. Romney has his shit together, has the support needed, and isn't an extreme right winger aka electable by the masses.

Like the others have said, the best candidate is Ron Paul but he will never get the support needed from the party.

I was a Republican since I was able to vote, I supported their economic policies, their foreign policy, and their strong stance against gun control. However, now the party has jumped on the Right Wing Fundamentalist Christian Crazy Train and I just cannot abide by that.

Their social policies scare the living shit out of me. As players, do you really want to live in a country where it is ILLEGAL for a woman to get an abortion? Do you want to live in a country where the government can restrict the type of porn you watch? Personally, I have several close friends who are gay and believe that they should have the right to get married. I don't want these people in my bedroom any more than I wanted the democrats in my gun cabinet.

If I HAD to chose between Romney and Santorum, that is an EASY choice, Romney all the way. The reason why I would go with Romney is because he is basically LYING to the party about how socially conservative he is. His mom was one of the biggest supporters of planned parenthood back in the 70's. As late as 2002, he said that he agreed with Roe v. Wade. Now he is telling the evangelicals some bullshit about how he wants to ban abortion. Get the fuck out of here! If he gets into office and the evangelicals try to push him to take action on social issues, my bet is that he will suddenly have more important things to do and ditch those fools.

Santorum? That crazy motherfucker will push HARD for all of those social policies that I hate. This asshole needs to mind his business and stay out of me and my friends' bedrooms. I have always said that my ideal vision of America would be a cross between Amsterdam and Texas.

Ron Paul seems cool until you take a close look at his policies. His economic and foreign policies would be horrible for the country, IMHO.

None of the above.

I haven't seen a candidate I'd ever endorse since I've been on this earth. Still waiting...

I don't think you have to hate gay people or be super Christian to conclude there is something not quite right about two dudes getting married and having the right to 'raise' kids. Should really be common sense. We don't seem to know our head from ass anymore.

If Romney gets put up - obama wins
Santorum - Obama wins
If Paul is put up - Paul wins by a landslide. A hell of a lot of people like and support Ron Paul, but the party is too pussy and chicken shit to put him up. They think, erroneously, that we need to put up a "middle of the road" candidate like Romney.

I'm going to expat pending the outcome of this election.

RealClearPolitics, the most reliable news source on election polling data, has a poll this week showing Romney as the only Republican ahead of Obama in a general election.

http://www.realclearpolitics.com/epolls/latest_polls/

Romney is also ahead in South Carolina, much to my surprise. He could end up winning every primary. If he takes SC AND Florida, I think everyone else in the field will call it quits if they haven't already by that point.

I agree with you that it's "not quite right", but that's their business, not mine. As for the raising kids thing, yea I don't like the thought of it either, but honestly wouldn't a stable home with gay parents be a hell of a lot better than a fucked up dirtbag white trash home? Now by no means am I gay rights supporter, but I'm not against it either. It doesn't affect me in the least. I just can't believe that people make it a central and important part of their political views. People who do that, like I said, are either super Christian or just like to hate on the queers.

I feel exactly the same way. Ron Paul has a huge chance of winning because his anti-war stance is very popular with the left. He's radical enough to attract democrats and republicans.

Romney is a fucking empty suit, he'll be crushed by Obama. I think I'd vote for Obama over Romney, because the Republican party should be ashamed for turning down Paul. They don't deserve the presidency when they elect cocksuckers like Romney.
