Dow closes over 13,000; first time since 2008 crisis
The key indicator has climbed more than 2,000 points in four months, up 20% from its recent low of 10,655.30 on Oct. 3.

Dude you're smoking some really good shit if you think these gains are meaningful. We've printed a few trillion dollars to goose the markets, these numbers are nominal and not real.

Seems like it worked

Not if you have to put gas in your car.

I love how the stock market going up is a bad thing, if there's a dem. in the white house. Tremendous...

The stock market going up is a good thing regardless of who is in office, but if you think that is the only way to measure an economy you're wrong, otherwise Zimbabwe would have a fantastic economy. Same with Weimar Germany and Argentina when they went bankrupt.

That's interesting since the interview was in 2007 and chronicles his earmarking during the Republican presidency of Bush.

2007, 2012, 1848, 300 million BC doesn't matter...US Gov't has wasted taxpayer $ for years

I used current examples, but if you want me to use Bush Jr-era examples: Ever heard of Halliburton? Iraq? Afghanistan? No Child Left Behind?

Ron Paul's against those too by the way and he rolls with **principle not by political party**

That's why he often stands strong and alone on the congress floor...like a boss G

You should read Scott Sumner. I think you'd find him interesting.

A few quadrillion would be a little much, but it would arguably do the economy a lot of good if the Fed announced tomorrow that it was setting a target for nominal GDP growth of 5% per year starting from the pre-2007 trendline and that it would conduct whatever open-market operations, quantitative easing, helicopter drops, etc. are necessary to meet it.

The US is nothing like Zimbabwe. Monetary policy has been very tight over the last 3-4 years (just over 1% annual inflation and record-low NGDP growth and interest rates). Bringing that back to the historical trend would not set off hyperinflation.

Haha I actually agree with frothy mix on quote 4:

"The radical feminists succeeded in undermining the traditional family and convincing women that professional accomplishments are the key to happiness."

Santorum: "I don't care" about US unemployment rate

MOLINE, Illinois (Reuters) - Republican White House hopeful Rick Santorum said on Monday he did not care about the U.S. unemployment rate, perhaps the nation's most closely watched economic indicator, despite being embroiled in a campaign largely focused on the still-sputtering economy.

"I don't care what the unemployment rate is going to be. It doesn't matter to me. My campaign doesn't hinge on unemployment rates and growth rates," Santorum said during a campaign appearance in Illinois, which on Tuesday holds the next contest in the state-by-state battle for the Republican presidential nomination.
