NYC still has a TON of concentrated, good looking women who are much more into fashion and taking care of themselves... I take a few trips up to NYC every year now. It's not becoming DC, not by a longshot. The women have a much different air about them, you can spot an out of towner a mile away. Luckily for me, I tend to blend in wherever I go.

Bad Hussar,

If you just want to see the sights and sites, then DC is great. If you like Air & Space, you should definitely check out the A&S Annex, which houses the most badass plane ever built (SR-71 Blackbird). Two days here should be enough. The main (fairly accurate) complaint about DC is that it is full of 5-7's who think they are 8-10's, women are not very stylish or feminine, bad M/F ratios at night at most venues, girls are credentialists, and it's pretty expensive to live here.

Thanks for the tip Menace. Yes, the Blackbird is definitely looks like it means business. Was at an airshow once where one of the new stealth planes was due to fly but didn't, supposedly due to some sort of wind or other weather conditions. WTF? Do military planners need to wait for a perfectly still day before operations can commence? The wind wasn't that strong, but it did look a bit fragile so I guess the reason makes sense.

5's who think they're 8's? 'Monica Lewinsky's? They will definitely live their lives in "interesting times".

NYC is very stratified. Manhattan is a luxury borough now with a huge in-flux of B&T on the weekends. Most of the rock and roll or hipster scene has relocated from the East Village to Brooklyn. There are, by far, many more hotter girls in the downtown area (Soho and Meatpacking). If you've got connections with promoters, there are many after-parties to hit up when the bars close at 4am.

My cousin lives in Staten Island and he tells me that the clubs have lots of hot chicks who are not fat, never mentioned sausage fest. Nevertheless I haven't been there in the last couple of years, so I cannot tell exactly what the situation is.

I think it's because of the recession. Girls have less money to go out and spend on new clothes, drinks, getting hair done, etc. Guys have less money to spend on girls, but have also wised up.

The motivation for guys to go out (potential pussy) is far greater, since most guys do not have it in their reality to pick up women when not drunk or when it is light out or when loud ass music isn't blaring. So they go out in hopes of banging one of the 8 girls in the bar.

Women's motivation (attention and fun) can be satisfied throughout the day and on facebook.

I live in a NJ college town and holy fuck its seriously a 4:1 ratio on good nights and most of them are fatties. So you have 70 dudes in the bar trying to pick up on 4 or 5 hot chicks. I'm sticking to campus and day game.

Great analysis.

maybe being an European speaking several languages (but with an American accent somehow) is giving me a great advantage in NYC but I have no idea what you're talking about.

I've been around a lot. South America, All over Europe and all over North America so far. But no other city giva me the talent pool of international, hot, fashionable women with the logistics (hey, why don't we share a cab?) that NYC gives me (well, excluding Stockholm, but that's smaller). Also, anything around Soho is a great daygame spot. TONS of tourists and the coffee shops down there are full of talent.

If you are looking for chicks with less attitude just skip the meatpacking and pick them up in the west village. Tons of professional 20-35 chicks that are surrounded by betas.

If you are high value and know promoters/have money to spend, go to meatpacking (avoid on sat, fri). I've gotten laid by just cutely waving at girls from across my table, its too easy.

If you're into hipsters, duh, hit up Brooklyn. If you're into cougars, go to Lavo. Man, so many options.

The explanation that the recession is hurting the influx of new girls might be true for US girls. But guys.. not every country is in a recession. From what I've been noticing it's def not hurting the influx of Scandinavians or hot high class Brazilians.

Hey YoungGunner,
Are you in Japan now or have you lived there? If yes, please drop a data sheet of the city you're familiar with in Japan. That would be very appreciated.

My recommended alternative is any major city in Japan. Is Japan on your radar in the near future Roosh?

Just saw this. I used to intermittently stay in Japan, often for weeks at a time, throughout each year for a span of around 5-years. During summers usually weaved my way through short trips through multiple cities, usually 2-3 days in each city. Off the top of my head I don't think I have enough info, especially current info, for a data sheet on any one city, since my experiences are more breadth than depth, but if you want a quick glance at any one city or general info on Japan just ask.

The best general advice I can give on Japan is that day gaming (in either japanese or english) is much easier than in the U.S, and should be juiced completely. Most people rack up their bangs just by going out at night to clubs and getting drunk out of their minds, but because so many girls are on the move in major cities, by foot, the traffic and prospects for day game are incredible. Couple that with a general politeness of the culture and the decline in marriages and sex in Japanese culture, and the ability to get numbers, especially from girls who work in malls or scour bookstores, during the day becomes a way to rack up a few extra bangs once you get them out at night.

I'm not sure what the dating scene is like in other cities, but in Tokyo the dating culture is much more energetic than in NY, meaning that multiple venue changes (for younger girls) and walking busy streets in one night are much more common, and luckily an easy way to build intimacy. One trick I've used to build intimacy early in the night is to have a pre game drink at a small sushi bar or at the family house I was staying at, and then hold her close to me as we either walk to the next venue or take the odakyu to it. As you walk, wait for the odakyu, or go on it, brush up against her and joke that she can't hold her liquor or that she's standing wobbly, and try to hold her up by the hands (or sides if you've already established enough comfort) This is a good way to continuously build kino if you're constantly moving throughout the night.

If you're in Tokyo and looking to have a nice evening just for the sake of it, look for hotel bars on the upper floors of their respective buildings, as the incredible view of the night skyline makes . These bars will likely come with a price tag, and will probably be overkill to bed a girl, but if you just want to breathe in the city for yourself its worth the price.

Keep in mind that I'm part Japanese and my interactions might already have some inherent comfort built into them with the J-girls, so you might have to build some more comfort or do some more convo before you move into the heavy touching. Or, you might not if she's hungry for foreign men. Also, beware J-girls with sharp facial features (cheekbones, brow rides), as in my experience that directly correlate to bitchiness.

Good friend of mine moved to Manhattan earlier this year and when I talked to him he said that the amount of opportunities he has are ridiculous. He said that if he wanted to, he could literally designate each day of the weak a certain ethnicity and have dates/bangs for each of those days. Asian Tuesdays. Latina Wednesdays. European Thursdays. Etc.

He does mostly day game and online.

Manhattan has the best day game I've ever found in the world. And there's not really a close second. But I haven't been there in about a year, so I can't vouch for the nightlife recently.

I think the hype of NYC sucking is overblown. The city is huge and changes so fast that while it might suck one weekend, it could be amazing the next. My trips to NYC so far this year have been very good. Although most bars are terrible sausage-fests and the women are really bitchy, you can make up for it by doing a lot of approaches on the hundreds of girls there.

Wrong time of day, wrong venue, no money, no game, your too old, you sound like a redneck, you look like a redneck -- one or multiples of those might explain most of the suck experiences.

Let me ask you a question... you arrive in Manhattan, and you don't know anyone in the city. Furthermore, you don't have any special events to attend. Where do you go?

If it were a smaller city, you'd probably hit up some designated "party area..." but this is NYC. There are no party areas as such. There's a gazillion small bars or lounges where people sit in groups (and their whole point is to get away from the madness outside). Clubs? Half of those are for the music/DJ experience or getting drunk/high like Pacha. I was at Pacha for all of 15 min. before I realized I was in the wrong place. Webster Hall was a little better, but the place felt like a joke, I was the only person there who was dressed up, it's obviously not for meeting people. Marquee was a sausage fest.

All the other places are much smaller and random. It's not like Dupont or K Street in DC where you can bounce between neighboring clubs and there's no problem getting in, and you know that's the designated party area where the crowd congregates.

One other thing that's suspicious to me is that people in NYC don't really dress up when they go out, they're very casual. Now I know we've talked a lot about DC women being ugly and not dressing well... but NYC, though more hip, is in fact more casual. When I wear my DC club attire (dress shoes, collar shirt) I'm way overdressed for NYC. What that tells me is that the agenda for the night is non-romantic in NYC. It's maybe hanging out with friends or the drug scene or what have you, similar to Europe.

Those are some of the things that have disappointed me on recent visits to NYC. But I didn't know anyone in the city, so I was just randomly exploring places based on info from Yelp.

The problem with generalizing about NYC is that it's so big you can be talking about the same borough and have opinions on the opposite side of the spectrum.

The best we can do is take note of the trend of more negative reports versus positive to see if it's getting better or worse.

I can tell u that manhattan is an awful place for a single guy. It was only until I started traveling did I come to realize how jaded women in nyc can be. The only reason I hang in nyc is because my family is in nj, and my home base is in hoboken, across thr river. I would write more but I am using my smartphone right now.

Is New York City becoming like DC?

Ok guys, as a New Yorker for most of my life, through good game and bad, I can attest to 100% of the stuff said here as true, the good and the bad.

First off - let's clear the air about these Meatpacking district supposedly "Model Infested" and impossible to get into clubs - most of these "Models" are actually college students (Many with Model Mayhem profiles filled out with the help of hustler photographers). Who else can go out on a Sunday, Monday, Wednesday night when the party gets "hot" only at midnight? They are mostly girls from the city's fashion schools, such as FIT and LIM, that basically have the lightest course work known to man. I'm friends with this chick that went to LIM and when we were pre-gaming in her dorm she was talking about how she "worked super hard for days" on this project. The project was essentially a "glue stuff on a poster" presentation that usually stops around 7th grade. I'm not saying that these girls aren't super hot, they are, but super super dumb, and that comes into play a bit later.
Most of this fairly underage nightlife is centered around these clubs (The frat scene is practically non existent in NYC schools, so for many girls - this is their only underage drinking option). Now - these clubs don't have many dudes in them - to get in you usually need to either spend lots of money or bring a bunch of girls with you, even if you know a promoter. And these girls get lots of attention anywhere else they go, but its impossible to compete for the super alphas that supposedly run shit at these places.

Now - lets flip the switch - just as 90% of the models are college students - 90% of the males in these "top" locations aren't ballers - but are simply involved in nightlife in some fashion - promoters, photographers, etc. These guys are enjoying a treasure trove of pussy simply with the sheer ratio in their favor, but these are not exactly the super stable "life provider" boyfriends that these chicks hope for. NYC is set up as a heaven for an established "30k millionaire".
Why? Because in NYC - to be rich and successful, and I'm talking big money successful like a finance guy or lawyer, you CANNOT afford to go out Sunday night at midnight, or Wednesday night at midnight, because your ass is in the office at the asscrack of dawn and stay there for a century. Say what you want about finance professionals - but they put in crazy office hours. And chicks wonder why they can't meet professional men at these things, silly broads.

Now - after college things get really interesting. The women from these hack schools get funneled into the fashion business and they have to work HARD. There is this thing called "fashion merchandising", I don't know exactly what it is, but 10 or 12 hour days are actually quite common, and the business end of fashion is incredibly demanding. It's a lot like finance, but with way less pay.

This is where the slope gradually begins.
The women in NYC know that the "wage gap" is bullshit, and that to make it in this city you gotta put in your hours. But when all you do is work and sleep, guess what goes first - that's right - upkeep. Weight is gained, skin gets messed up as stress and overdrinking sets in, and these girls, who were once the apple in the eye of so many men, begin slipping.
This tends to happen incredibly fast. I guess this is where the "DC-ishness" begins to set in.
The unfortunate part is that right when these women begin to decline - that's when they discover where all the good men with good jobs are - in the regular ass bars, drinking some cheap pretentious-free beers with their friends. But for many its too late. Some girls go to these bars while they're still pretty, and that's how places like Dorrians and Brother Jimmy's on the Upper East Side become popular.
Here's a little sample of the fashion school chicks meet finance culture here - http://www.nytimes.com/2009/08/09/fashion/09fmeetf.html - the quotes from there are worth their weight in gold.

Ok.... lets take a break from the depressing stuff lol

What else - there are LOTS of niches and social circle stuff in this city. Just being nice to people pays dividends, and you're often invited out to parties with people that usually dont go out to bars and clubs. Just recently I went to a apartment party where most of the attendees were getting doctorates in biology. There is a large amount of girls that arent crazy social climbing whores, but you really gotta dig for them, and fight off some haters in the process, since a lot of these girls are shielded by their social circle to the max.

People are really into their nationalities here. I know some people who, for example are spanish and most of their social circle is Spanish, or at least some kind of european, and they consider Americans "dirty", although they live and work here.

It's impossible to keep up with all the variations of nightlife - the bars, the clubs, the ethnicities. For example, I went to a party in Washington Heights - and noticed this GIGANTIC line outside, with plenty of limos, people dressed to the 9s, everything - and it was a reggaeton concert, something that a white boy like me isnt ingrained in.

Now - the nightlife is so varied that its hard not to find a place that you wont like. There is a bar in brooklyn that has its walls lined with old video game arcade machines - and hipster chicks love it. there are bars frequented by college students, and bars swarmed with alumni of particular colleges. Here is where a lot of people fuck up in NYC - they try to get into the scenes that they really don't want to be in just because it seems cool. for example, i knew a guy that would most definitely be able to get hot chicks in that brooklyn arcade bar - but he damn near killed himself trying to get into the 30k millionaire meatpacking crowd.

what else - internet dating i HUGE here. people know that they are stuck in their social circles and want to get out. But this, in typical NYC fashion, comes with its own set of oddities. it's really an 80/20 thing here, because as we all know, girls egos grow exponentially online, so she immediately comes up with a 600 point checklist for men and mercilessly reject them. I was hanging out with my sister watching her friend drink wine and make fun of guys that send her messages on match.com. I was thinking to myself "damn bitch, chill out, you're 30". However, if you have your shit reasonably together and have a good profile - the pickings here are pretty damn good. I would highly recommend a OKCupid account for anyone in NYC. ((speaking of OKC, i think i found GMac's profile, and DAMN, you look a lot better than your competition and have a waaay sexier profile, no homo. But for real, you stand out in that endless pile of chub)).

Anyway - the key to NYC is to always explore. Explore the neighborhoods and explore yourself, and try to live by whatever standards make you happy. If you don't - you will immediately find yourself feeling absolutely fucking terrible.
I recently broke up with my girlfriend and to be honest, I was upset. Many of my nightlife connections soured and I really didn't know where to re-start again. I even made a post about it on this forum, I was really lost. I made a BIG mistake by going out with a friend of mine to what ended up being a guido club. I am not a guido, and i am not appealing in the guido sense of the word. I got rejected ALL night and felt like pure shit. However, just a few days later - i went to a place i liked, had some drinks and truly didn't give a shit - got a chick with my unborn children on her face by the end of the night.

Damn.. that was a long and unstructured rant

"Is New York City Becoming Like DC?"

For the sake of all in New York, I hope not. Interesting topic here. Not much I can add on top of Strangelove as his analysis is pretty dead on. I don't live up in NYC (although I hope to soon), but I am up there all the time for work and get out quite a bit.

I haven't noticed NYC getting DC'ed at all, but I believe it's possible. However, I will add the caveat that it's only possible to a SMALL DEGREE. I say small because there is a floor for NYC. No matter how bad the recession gets, even if we get up to insane levels of 15 percent unemployment, NYC will always have aspiring models/actresses living off someone else's dime (usually their parents') chasing their dream. No matter how bad things get, NYC is still an epicenter for fashion and film. Same goes for Hollywood. (I was there a few weeks ago, had a phenomenal time and honestly felt nauseous coming back to DC).

So if New York is becoming like DC, there is a limit to that transformation. The recession will grind down the numbers of hot girls to no end in cities with no looks-based industry, but in New York and LA, there are said industry safeguards. Think of it as a roller coaster just before the plunge. In New York, it will only go a quarter of the way down the track. In DC however, where the number of MA-required, policy-oriented jobs are increasing exponentially and no fashion industry to speak of, there are no safeguards. The car on the tracks goes straight into the abyss, with no end in sight.

Bottom line: It may get tougher to consistently find 8s and 9s in New York, but there will always be a core group still there. (Likely those mentioned above, with no jobs and no responsibilities going out on a Weds. night at midnight in the meatpacking district).

Do you guys live in tiny apartments with roommates?

I grew up in NYC, and unless you got Diddy type money, everyone will live in a small 600SF apt in Manhattan if they can shell out the 4,000/mo rent.

Otherwise, it's places like Brooklyn you'll have to settle for.

Studio's in Manhattan south of 96th street (so no Harlem or Washington Heights) go for around $2000/month. Naturally it's higher for in demand hoods like the Village, SoHo and TriBeCa. If you're looking for a density of bars and (relatively) low rent try out the East Village or the Lower East Side.

Lower East side is pure ghetto projects, and Latin King gang territory man. Granted there are some fine ghetto Puerto Rican girls in the LES projects, I've banged my share of LES gangsta bitches, but I'm not sure I could actually live there today (when my financial resources are "different").

My bad, though my bet is that it will be gentrified like the rest of Lower Manhattan before long.

My experiences with the Lower East Side this year showed almost nothing but white hipsters. I saw far more hispanics in Astoria.

Is New York City becoming like DC?

Humm..I guess they are finally kicking them out then. LES is primo realty if real estate developers can get a hold of land/buildings there.

Astoria has always been 90% Hispanic, mostly Colombians sprinkled with a few Central Americans.

There are some folk living on south of 96th on the UES in studios for less than 2k a month. They're really small though. I had a friend who used to live over on York south of 96th but north of 80th. Duke was only paying $900 for a studio (it was really small). Granted this was few years ago, now i'd say he's probably paying $1500. I know a bunch of cats on the west side paying below 2k for rent (but their rents are rising). I really feel you don't have to live in these prime areas if you want access to good nightlife. They're are plenty of places in The Bronx, Brooklyn and even Jersey City, where you can live well below your means and still cake up.

I went to college in the UES

The LES has changed so much over the past ten years. I can remember as a kid hanging out at the nuyorican in 99-04, Yeah there was gentrification and hipsters back then but not at the full force that it's at now. About a month ago I got invited to a party The Thompson and I didn't know whether to be disgusted or not. I remember lot's of these blocks before they had gotten built up. Hell I remember getting thrown out of the mercury lounge because I was underage.

A good deal of the old LES is strictly in the projects or the subsidized/income regulated buildings. Lots of people had to move uptown or to The Bronx, to neighborhoods like university heights, mott haven, morrisania, fordham etc.

with the LES you still have pockets of hood blocks, barbershops, shelters but its changing. You can still find a lot of this stuff around ave C.

Yeah there are lots of Colombians still out there in Astoria, but it's still a haven for hipsters, lots of Mexicans out there now too.

There are lots of debates going on right now about rezoning occurring down there, NYCHA is in the red right now and some of that waterfront property is valued in the billions.
