YMG's thread on Jason Fried reminded me of Ruby and I was wondering if anyone else here is a programmer?
If so, which languages/frameworks do you guys typically use? I really want to switch over to Ruby, but I hate the syntax (among other things). It reminds me of VisualBasic, which I despise.
I primarily use PHP in combination with JavaScript for UI stuff. My preference for PHP/MySQL is mostly just out of habit and I'm very open to switching.
I think commonjs, NodeJS and nosql systems like redis are going to make for some very powerful technology stacks in the future, but there's such little documentation/servers for them at the moment that I'm wary about making a full switch.
What do you guys typically use for large scale projects and why?
