Later on, Gary's betaness is revealed if it was ever in doubt before when he delivers the pizza to the nymphomaniac. Instead of pulling the trigger right there and trying to bang her, he gets scared and gets his friends. Of course, Rick is the one who takes charge and bangs her first. If Rick had been the original one to deliver the pizza, he would have just banged her right then and there, instead pussying out and calling his friends.

Side note:
Louisa Moritz, the actress who played that nymphomanic is one of the women who recently accused Bill Cosby of that inappropriate sexual stuff.

I DVR'd this flick a couple months back and finally watched it. I concur with what others have said - this is a good flick. If I had son(s), this movie would be required viewing for him/them. This film has some serious life lessons in it, namely, chicks are masters of manipulation. They are always looking for a soft spot.

I felt for Gary, but he had to learn the hard way. He was a sap with a good heart...which the manipulative bitch crushed.

Loved the quick muff shot of Karen in the abortion clinic. Ah, the 80s...

^ I don't even think gary had a good heart. He had a really bad case of oneitis. And that can never end well.

^^Good points. He was clearly blind though, 'cause Karen couldn't have made it more obvious on every occasion that she didn't give a shit about him.

I love the 3 of them getting crabs from the hooker - funny as Hell!

Good flick overall.

I actually thought karen's friend was hotter than karen(the girl with the glasses), and they made rose wear dorky looking glasses to make her look more charactery. The lesson there is pretty obvious: when you have oneitis for a chick who has no interest in you, and her hot friend does like you, you go for the hot friend instead of the oneitits. whats so bad about rose anyways?

I completely agree. I would have been in Rose several hours a day. But, oneitis does that to you.

Plus, if you look them up on IMDB.com, Karen when thru the wall at high speed; Rose, OTOH, is still bangable (to me anyway).

Thanks for the recommendation OP! I watched this last night and was blown away. A million times better, and more realistic, than any of the other 80s teen, coming-of-age flicks I've seen. Awesome soundtrack too

Now what is really disturbing is if you look at Rick, a role model to guys on the forum really in terms of how to be a charismatic, lovable jerk who gets the girls, then look up the actor who played Rick, the kinds of roles he was doing in the 80s (Goonies, The Accused), and what's happened to him since then, and what he looks like now. Now that's disturbing.......

I remember looking up both of the actors and was surprised at what i saw. Rick looks gay now and Gary looks very ripped. So the hot girl should have chosen Gary for the long run. I think this irony fits the movie, in that you never know how people will turn out years later. Girls or guys that were hot in high school can look like shit 20 years later.

Both of those guys are gay in real life. I don't know if anyone else said that yet in this thread. Really good movie though.

I'm sure I watched that at least once on cable back in the day, but to me the standard bearer of the mercilessness of evolutionary sexual selection is Lucas with Corey Haim.

Glad Jura and company were able to find "Last American Virgin." I should have known people here would be smart enough to find semi-underground movie sites on their own.

I'd also recommend two more movies from that era that leave you with a more upbeat mood but also teach lessons that are important in these parts. First is "Hardbodies," which had game concepts and shows how guys can learn them. Second is "The Malibu Bikini Shop," which defines Alpha and Beta and shows the main character making the transition.

Both movies are unapolegetically male-centered and trashy, but slip Red Pill messages into the T&A parade, which makes them both insightful and hella fun. In fact, they're the opposite of Hollywood rom-coms, which come off as being "enlightened" but are really promoting "pretty lies" (to grab Roissy's term).

This is probably why all three movies discussed here found an audience with teenage boys on late night cable, not in mainstream culture. This stuff makes people uncomfortable and I can see "Hardbodies" and "Malibu" being cited in women's studies classes as examples of sexism. But sexism = a realistic look at the sexual marketplace.

I don't think I've ever heard of it until I scoped this thread, so I promptly got a hold of a high-quality file and watched it today. Indeed, very good, and the ending was unexpected. Sharp, realistic - the whole movie was worthwhile. I also saw "Hardbodies" years ago. As mentioned above, up-beat, but informative. Both films had great soundtracks, especially the REO in "Last American Virgin", and the early tracks from Vixen in "Hardbodies", as they make an appearance.

I just got done watching it, not knowing anything about it other than 'underrated movie'. Man. That ending is a real gut punch.

You think things are going to end awesome when Gary returns home from his 'fake ski trip' when instead he spent those days with the chick. He shakes his dad's hand, is elated & on top of the world.

Then he goes to the birthday party and... ouch. Pretty accurate too. This was definitely a good movie.

I agree 100% with both of you. I've seen this movie twice and think it is one of the few realistic movies about high school and young love. It turns out exactly like real life. I felt like I had lived some of that movie!!!

Most teen movies, nerd guy gets hot girl. Or the reverse nerd girl gets the hot guy: Dirty Dancing!

The reverse nerd girl getting the hot guy is a realistic outcome if the nerd girl is attractive or gives great head. I may have a specific redhead I knew in high school and a specific baseball player in my class in mind.
