Sex does sell well in the app market. But it's pretty easy to be ignored. It's a definite blockbuster style market and getting into the top lists is your biggest priority, which means a big concentrated burst of purchases which launch you into the lists and then snowballing purchases due to the sex hook and the top 100 list exposure. You then taper off as most people want to buy your app have and you get a constant rate thats stays fairly stable. It's an entertainment orientated market, so putting a bit of that element into it will help. iPhone users pay a lot more than android users do.

I just wanna say, first, its super cool that you understand how the app market ranks. I did SEO for years so things like this fascinate me.

Also: That's because a lot of android users are also linux users. And most droid programmers are linux users for sure - things being free is built into the culture.

No, as a percentage of anything, linux users are a minority. Most people get android phones as the cheaper smartphone internationally. iPhone tend to be status symbols comparatively. It's trivial to pirate via refunds and iPhone users are just more willing to spend money on apps in general vs android owners. What I said is common smart phone developer industry knowledge.

As far as android developers go, they tend to just use eclipse on any of the 3 major OSes that they prefer.

Is "Tomato, to-mah-to" applicable here?

Maybe "When in rome"?

I'm not a smart phone developer : I just took a guess - which was very wrong it would seem...
