Colon Cleansing

Have any of you guys tried this? So supposedly if you eat meat your colon accumulates pieces of shit that don't get cleaned out and this releases toxins into your body. With colon cleansing you shoot water all up into your ass and then it drains out all the junk.

When I did yoga I hung out with a bunch of people that were talking about it, but the other day a body builder friend of mine who you would never expect would do anything like this said he did it and recommends it.

Anyone know anything about this?

Its a crock of shit (pun somewhat intended)

There's a type of fiber (psyllium husk I believe) that when dissolved creates a thick gel that ostensibly molds the inside of your intestine. This big gelatinous mold is what you shit out, not "years of build up" so it appears that something abnormal came out of you, but in reality the product is designed to make it look that way.

Everything I found about a real cleanse said do a 24-48 hour water fast and take a few fiber caps during that time period.

Think it's called Colonic Irrigation.

Apparently it can be helpful for spotting cancer.

I was never sold on colon cleansers. I've used The Master Cleanse by Stanley Burroughs for a decade now and swear by it.

I can't begin to tell you how good I feel afterwards. The results are great. I recommend doing it once a year for 10 days.

Most of th cases, it's bullshit. Eat healthy, and your are fine. Plus, it does negatively affect thebiochemical balance in your intestine.

Yes, the intestine is never really empty, but unless you want to lose weight ASAP, it's not an issue (read about louis Armstrong's strategy back then).

I tried something similar once for the hell of it just because I was curious. Here's a tip: don't eat watermelon after a day or so of liquid fasting; damn stuff comes right out as pink and fibrous as it came in and freaks the hell out of you. In general, though, probably doesn't do much good for ya.

Have a lot of fiber in your diet, that will clean you out. I recommend collards, they will definitely work. Metamucil twice a day works also.

I'd avoid too much extra grain based fiber, and colon cleansing is a horrible idea. It will disturb your gut flora (bacteria in gut) which will in turn affect your mental and overall health. It also messes up digestion for at least several days afterwards. I've had to have colonoscopies before and its not something you should strive for. An interesting book on fiber is The Fiber Menace. Any sort of IBS or overall gut disfunction may not be helped with fiber. It depends on your body.

For laxatives, try powdered vitamin C, and magnesium citrate at different times of the day. You need both vitamins (hard to get necessary levels of both by diet, c is easily deactivated by cooking) and too much of either will give you the runs.

Collards are great for you...but metamucil, no fucking way. People take that shit too much and then their bodies become dependent on it and they can't shit on their own...some even lose complete control of the bowels and have to use diapers the rest of their life. Slippery slope...i recommend staying away from it and using food (grapes, prunes, etc) if you need to clean out.

I eat a healthy diet. I nevertheless do a cleanse every 3-6 months.

Guys can hate on it all they want. Usually it's the weakest and sickliest fucks who hate on things like cleanses.

I do the Heckman Flush.

and both are good for you. watermelon makes your dick hard due to the citrulline -- it works as a natural viagra by dialating the blood vessels. Pay attention after you eat a healthy serving of watermelon and you'll see what i mean.

Colon Cleansing

Don't use colon cleansers. They can irritate the intestinal mucosa and cause inflammation, destroy your natural "good" bacteria that help you break down waste products, and can even perforate the bowel. This can result in nausea, vomiting, cramps, dehydration, mucosal discharge, or infection. Your body doesn't need the extra help, the colon has a carefully controlled microenvironment that's made to deal with toxins and it's best not to interfere with it.

CC's are only worth it if you have been abusing yourself for years and you are now doing a complete clense and "system reboot". Its only effective as part of a complete detox. You can't just eat like shit for years and then expect to wash it all out with 1 or 2 Coon cleanses.

If you are willing to fast for a day or 2 on just water and juice, then eat nothing but raw fruits and vegetables for a few days, then it might be worth it.

Its not a cure all. Consistently, eating lots of greens might be just as effective. Its only for people who are fully commited to detox.

The whole concept of "detoxing" oneself is false. It's just an argument to sell snake oil therapies to the uninformed. You cannot detox yourself, neither trhough eating fruits nor through colon cleansing.

It has never been proven that "detoxing" works or that is even necessary, what kind of "toxins" should we be getting rid off anyway?

It's a layman's concept that is completely unproven. Most magazines are full of this stuff just to fill pages, it's also a very profitable business for those selling alternative medicine.

Sheesh,

Your concerns are valid. Let me elaborate...

Lets say your diet hasn't been very healthy. You have been eating alot fast food, processed food, artificial food, etc.

These foods are filled with things that your body doesn't know what to do with. Things like artificial colors, artificial sweeteners, preservatives, artificial flavors, animal hormones, added chemicals and metals. We know alot of this stuff causes disease and of course it makes you fat.

These are the "toxins". They are literally toxic to your biology.

Lets say you have been eating like this for 10 or 20 or 30 years. You are fat and have low energy.

Do you think its possible to remove these artificial products from your body?

If so, how do you recommend removing them?

I think the answer is yes and the best way to remove them is a clean, natural diet of mostly fresh fruits and vegetables and plenty of water. Of course, there is nothing wrong with chicken, rice, fish, beans, grains, and other quality food.

What do you think? Is this some pseudo science bullshit or can a clean diet literally clean out your system and remove these toxins?

I don't concur with Sheesh's statement at all. I've tried detoxing and I felt great after. I've lived in other countries that don't have as much processed crap and i can tell you my energy was a lot different in these other countries than here. So the whole concept of detoxing and removing the crap from your body is totally founded and credible.
Obviously, you are going to have all sorts of people try and jump on the bandwagon and abuse the concept by selling crap but to say that it is hogwash is inaccurate.

It does work. I however, have never had my colon cleansed.
