I have zero safety net this time and need costs as low as possible (it's all so tiresome...)
Just scanning Air BnB, the cheapest so far for rents are Pattaya and Hanoi.
I've visted both - Hanoi was very interesting in their winter time, cold as fuck but very atmospheric - I'd be willing to give it a go longer term. When I was in HCMC in 2017 or so, I remember I managed to get a business visa somehow, and was able to stay a year. Or maybe.. I got a tourist visa then EXTENDED it into a business visa once I was there, I def did something like that.
Anyone know if this shit is still possible? It's the constant moving on tourist visas that has always been the biggest ball-ache, and it costs too.
As for Pattaya - shithole from memory, the walking street was fucking disgusting, Thailand at its worst, I can only imagine how much worse it's gotten in these last few years. It was full of Russians last time, Thai people would speak to me in Russian, it was very odd.
I could probably get used to it - rent a scooter, live cheap on Thai food at local places. But again, the Thai visa thing is a mega PITA.
I also just saw a video saying now they don't let farang have bank accounts! And even those who had them (like me) are having them forced closed ffs)
Another option could be Paraguay but a boring place by all accounts.
Really I'd like to go back to the Caucaus region or the stans for the summer, like Kazakhstan, but these places are over the top price-wise, I don't know how they justify it.
