You walk from behind her to in front of her but also slightly to the side. Approaching from behind is alarming and also completely blocking her path from the front is too.

Completely, sometimes the pavement is quite thin on a busy road in provincial England so it's just awkward, could fake "picking up a coin" saying is it yours, work? You've got an excuse to open etc
