First time black women win all three biggest US pageants

In a historic first, the 2019 winners of America's three biggest beauty pageants are all black women.

Nia Franklin, 25, became Miss America in September, followed last week by Kaliegh Garris, 18, as Miss Teen USA and Cheslie Kryst, 28, as Miss USA.

The wins are particularly meaningful given the competitions' decades-long history of racism and bias.

Vanessa Williams was the first black woman to win a top pageant in 1983.

After Ms Williams was crowned Miss America, it took until 1990 for another black woman to win a major pageant.

"Mine is the first generation to have that forward-looking mindset that has inclusivity, diversity, strength and empowered women," Ms Kryst said in her acceptance speech on Thursday.

Ms Kryst is a civil litigation lawyer from North Carolina who also works pro-bono to reduce unfair sentences for prisoners. She will now represent the US in the Miss Universe pageant.

The reigning Miss America, Ms Franklin, is an opera singer who also works with the Sing for Hope charity to promote accessibility of the arts and social change.

Teen winner Ms Garris and Ms Kryst have both also been praised for opting to wear their natural hair in the pageants.

2020 presidential hopeful Senator Kamala Harris, whose father is Jamaican, shared her support on Instagram, saying: "What a tremendous moment for these young, successful women making their own path, on their own terms."

Miss America, the oldest of the top three pageants, was created in 1921. Miss USA began in 1950 and Miss Teen USA in 1983.

Until the 1940s, Miss America barred women not of "the white race" from participating. Despite later changes to the rules, a black woman did not participate in Miss America until 1970.

In 1968, black women held the first Miss Black America pageant to protest racist standards.

More recently, in the wake of the #MeToo movement, these pageants have continued to change, with many contestants pushing for diversity and women's empowerment over beauty alone.

In seriousness, I'd be fine with all this promotion of black women in the west, if black women actually knew how to be feminine, like Asian or Latino women.

Fact is they're demanding, aggressive and make bad girlfriends.

Objectively, they are less beautiful on average than other women, they should know they gotta work harder. Yet they do the opposite.

Actually, I think black women have some potential that they are NOT using. Part of it because of being pig-headed and the other part because of the entitlement mentality that is pervasive in female minds all over the west.

I have heard relatively good things about African women, the complains I hear always come from the West (the United States, specifically) where this kind of "Muh independent black wahmen who need no man" seems to be extremely common.

But truth is, IF THEY TAKE CARE of themselves, they do have arguably the best bodies on average along with latinas. They tend to age well in certain conditions too (black don't crack) and my personal experience, plus what I have read and others have told me is that sexually they don't fall behind anyone either.

Now, I'm a European dude and wouldn't ever miscegenate, but I still do feel they are misusing their potential and CLEARLY not accessing the situation well. Not my problem, though.

I don't see any reason for that comparison, both of us have been here for a long time. But Eel is actually married to an African, no? I've had a few flings with them but never even dated one and am not interested in seriously doing so, not interested in having halfies. So I do fail to see the similarity. I think the issue here is whether we've come to a point where judges are now picking African-Americans to avoid social media protests. I've seen some of this in the entertainment field after the "#OscarsSoWhite" protests and that might be what we're seeing here.

No one wants to be the subject of a hashtag. Getting branded a racist is forever these days because of the Internet.

As to who straight men actually find attractive, you can't look to beauty pageants. You need to check the asking prices of hookers. They used to run lots of these ads in the alternative weekly City Papers of the 1990s and 2000s.

The way it usually goes is blonde white women charge the most, followed by white brunettes. After that comes the older white MILFs and Asians in general. Bringing up the rear (no pun intended) are black and Latino women.

There are exceptions, of course. Like when you have minority women who look like models or who worked as porn stars. But this is generally the way "the free market" works, so to speak.

The standards for beauty have really fallen. Survey all the men in the US, and I bet the representation would be a lot different.

Tip: african american males like light skinned beauties, too. In fact, in their community, light skinned women are more prized possession than the darker skin counterparts. European or other foreign features mixed are more attractive.

To us it doesn't matter about these events. Who it does matter to are the people who work hard to put these events on and attract the best female talent to them. It matters to the contestants who work hard on bettering themselves in order to have a chance at winning.

We already know the score, but I bet most of these people do not. They will all know whether these chicks deserved to win or not. Like kindergarten kids not being allowed to keep score, they still know who won.

If they deserved to win on merit, congrats. If they won because of skin color, shame on the scam artist judges. If they won because of fear from activists, then fuck their lack of integrity. Either way, its a good thing for our side.
