Russia and other Eastern European countries are well-known for both their beautiful women and their problems with alcoholism, while Muslim countries that ban alcohol aren't exactly known to produce that many stunners...
In wealthier countries like the U.K. or Australia, where we don't have the same economic stresses that are probably causing alcoholism elsewhere, maybe this inverse relationship has some truth to it. Especially if 'attractiveness' includes personality/attitudes/femininity/approachability, which is where Australian girls really fall short (there are plenty of physically attractive girls here).
