Dentists in Asia - Getting Teeth Fixed?

I'm currently living in SouthEast Asia and need to have some dentistry work done. More specifically, I have enamel hypoplasia on my front teeth (white markings on your tooth), and could use a teeth whitening.

From what I understand, fixing enamel hypoplasia involves chipping away or pulling the front teeth and putting in caps, so I'd actually need a professional who knows what he's doing. No sloppy, half-assed typical third world dentist.

So I'm wondering which city is best to get some dentistry work done. Should I go to Hong Kong, Singapore or South Korea etc, or could I get this done safely in Bangkok?

As far as I can tell South Korea is the only Asian country where most Dentists carry a menu (like a restaurant) and it's very difficult for them to do the "scam the foreigner" game that is prevalent in most places.

That being said a cavity filling is still $90 in South Korea when allegedly it's $30 in Taipei (both these numbers are without insurance).

The guys at Tealit did make a graph telling you what the price should be (or similar to it) so that should help you in terms of negotiating and not getting scammed. These prices are in NTD so you have to divide by 30 to get the USD number (as you can see it's cheaper than South Korea and probably competitive with Thailand).

I needed to get a root canal in China. It cost me 300 RMB (about fifty bucks). When I had one done in Canada it was almost a thousand. So that is your price factor. Instead of Hong Kong you might try running across the border to Shenzhen. I don't know about dental services in HK but just about everything else is 3 to 4 times as expensive. If it's a tricky procedure and you want a specialist you can probably find one in Beijing or Shanghai. You could ask around echinacities.com to find an expat to point you in the right direction.

I need a lot of work done. I basically need a full set of braces for a couple years and then a bunch of veneers.

Anybody know if you get braces oversees if you can get cheap maintenance in the states?

I've had a lot of work done by "Sea Smile" Dental Clinic in Phuket.

Safe, clean, professional and inexpensive.

This thread is cool! The obvious concern is make sure the doctor doesn't play the scam the foreigner game or that it isn't a run down unsanitary dump.

I need medical work but not willing to pay overpriced American prices for work I can get elsewhere. Added this to my bucket list since I'm job hunting at the moment and my phone isn't ringing off the hook.
