New Data Confirms "Cool Wine Aunts" Are Suicidally Depressed Alcoholics

....much to the surprise of nobody, really.

"Alcohol is killing more people, and younger. The biggest increases are among women

OAKTON, Va. – The last time lawyer Erika Byrd talked her way out of an alcohol rehab center, her father took her to lunch.

"Dad, I know what alcohol has done to me," she told him that day in January 2011. "I know what it has made me do to you and mom. But that wasn’t me."

By the time she died three months later, Byrd had blocked her parents' calls because they kept having her involuntarily committed. They once had a magistrate judge hold a hearing at her hospital bed. He ordered herto undergo a month of in-patient treatment.
.....
One alarming statistic: Deaths among women rose 67 percent. Women once drank far less than men, and their more moderate drinking helped prevent heart disease, offsetting some of the harm.

Deaths among men rose 29 percent.

While teen deaths from drinking were down about 16 percent during the same period, deaths among people aged 45 to 64 rose by about a quarter.

People's risk of dying, of course, increases as they age. What's new is that alcohol is increasingly the cause.

"The story is that no one has noticed this," says Max Griswold, who helped develop the alcohol estimates for the institute. "It hasn't really been researched before."

The District of Columbia, less than 10 miles away from the Venable law office where Byrd was a partner, had the highest rate of death from alcohol in the country, according to the institute's analysis. Georgia and Alabama came in second and third.

Alabama, in fact, ranked third among states with the strongest alcohol control policies, as rated by medical researchers in a 2014 report published in the American Journal of Preventive Medicine.

States can influence drinking – especially dangerous binge drinking – with policies such as taxes on alcohol and restrictions on where and when it can be sold."

Good to see this article. Usually the media avoids stuff like this because they don't want to offend advertisers, a lot of whom are liquor brands.

I want to single out one paragraph:

"Drinking can lead to cancers all along the digestive tract, from the mouth to the colon. About 15 percent of U.S. breast cancer cases are considered to be caused by alcohol. A third of those cases affected women who drank 1.5 drinks or less a week, according to a 2013 report in the American Journal of Public Health."

People think in binaries, so we always think "Alcohol = alcoholism," and don't associate it with digestive tract problems. For that we think bad food = digestive problems.

But overuse of alcohol can be like lighting the digestive tract on fire. Before you get cancer, you deal with all sorts of other issues. A big one is hiatal hernias, which screw up your stomach and esophagus. I know someone who drank heavily and got this, but is in denial and claims he ate too much steak in childhood (i.e. 20 years before the diagnosis).

Moderation in everything because you pay a price for everything, good or bad.

I think the biggest difference between women today and let's say women of 20 years ago is the drinking. It's not uncommon now to see girls getting piss-drunk and blacking out in the middle of the street (followed by Instagram posts where she acts like she's proud of it).

Not to mention how much these stupid whores love wine and think chugging it by the bottle is perfectly OK because wine is "good for you".

The new medical guidelines this year include a more aggressive alcohol screen- but lets not confine this to women. During my rotations I was alarmed at the amount of men in their late 20s-early 30s with alcohol related liver failure- It was primarily white men which was why it was so weird. They all had the same story-Unmarried, at least college educated many with graduate school, constantly getting smashed off cheap whiskey, wake up to work with Adderall go to sleep blackout drunk with sleeping pills. The majority of these men where employed and lived either in very small apartments or with parents-most were also underemployed.

Yeah I gotta be careful with this as I kicked Beer recently because I don't consider it a manly drink (Too much of of it will tank your T-levels, but so does all alcohol.) But I replaced it with wine and can have up to 1 bottle a night per week to 1 bottle and a few glasses spread throughout the week. Trying to cut back. I exercise regularly though and most girls ask me if I've been working out so by all means I'm still looking pretty good. Wonder how my insides are...

Yep.
Know a guy who is probably close to 30. I'd say 32y/o at the most. Is intelligent enough to work in a field that requires scoring higher on an aptitude test than most.
Yet is not wise enough to stop drinking, even after a doctor advised him that he has ruined his liver & should stop drinking.

I recall he said the damage was not permanent, so a temporary time-frame of sobriety would be enough to return his liver to a somewhat normal state, but no...

After seeing this, I wanted to warn people a bit. I took a blood test recently and liver enzymes came up high. I hardcore drank a bunch of periods in my life, though have kept it down to less then once a week the past two years. Your liver needs a fucking break though and every man here should take off multiple months every once in a while.

Liver problems are going to become more prevelent as people get married later and stay single longer. If you go out a lot still and in your 30s, I would check yourself out.

Alcohol destroys your body too. Your stomach becomes swollen no matter how much you work out.

My testosterone was above average though, so much for that one.

I had to deal with a 'cool cat lady aunt' while working a few months ago. Absolutely miserable cretin.
It was clear that the fact she had to talk to a man in some position of authority/power (me) made her angry, and she made a point to treat me with disrespect.

It takes 3 months of no ETOH (alcohol) for a liver to regenerate if there is not too much damage. One of the dudes was really in bad , bad shape- 29 year old male, jaundice, drank a fifth of hard liquor or more a day plus beers, liver enzymes through the roof , plus multi-drug resistant hypertension. To his credit he quit cold turkey and did everything the doctor told him and made all his follow up appointments-I saw him 3 months later and his hypertension was gone with no drugs needed, jaundice was gone, he looked 10 year younger, he was slimmer and lost 20 pounds and his liver enzymes were normal. If he did not quit he would have been dead within 3-6 months, instead he made a full recovery.

With older women, they might be more inclined to up their drinking as their beauty fades and they face a new reality of being invisible to men. That must be depressing. I suspect with the younger generation of women drinking heavy is largely a way for them to feel like they are as tough as men because they can get shitfaced too. Also, both older and younger women could very well feel their life has not gone according to the script that they had planned and the sting of seeing their friends "perfect" lives on social media might lead them to drink as a way of self medicating for depression.

Obviously, the nature of alcohol is that it is physically addictive and also habit forming. Honestly, I don't think the majority of older women who drink will quit or cut back on drinking even if medical doctors advice them to. The older you are the harder it is to change your habits and rituals so these trends as mentioned in the article will only continue.

We are going to see in the very near future more cases of women who have serious issues with out of control drinking. I know some people that work in the local grocery store business in my area and they tell me that the amount of boxed wine that they sell to mid 20s to late 40s women is just through the roof. This is in a very upper middle class area and it borders some very wealthy suburbs.

A lot of women think that drinking wine is more classier than other alcoholic beverages and some believe since it’s only wine that they don’t have an alcohol issue. They are seriously naive about this. There is nothing worse than seeing a woman who is a serious drunk. This is something that ages them very rapidly and badly.

I live in a UMC suburb that has a lot of these "cool wine aunts". They're always seen at fancy bars and restaurants drinking wine, on their balcony drinking wine, in front of their TV drinking wine etc. Some I personally know would talk non-stop on social media about drinking wine. Usually they're small and haggard looking, I don't know how they can drink so much. Not sure about suicidal but upon talking to them, it's very obvious that they're severely depressed and lonely.

Let's look at the common themes from the thread.

Young adults along with older women - unmarried, working unfulfilling jobs, in lousy relationships or no relationship, on prescription mood swinging drugs, and living anonymously in large cities in tiny apartments - are drinking more. Rates for women are increasing faster than men. I'm sure the cock carousal has NOTHING to do with it.

Women aren't meant to grow old without a male leader in their household making sure they control their vices.

Not a stray observation, but an observable scientific fact. Quote below, followed by links -- one from none other than Roosh's good buddy...Dr. Oz!

"Alcohol can lead to dehydration of the skin," says Westchester, NY, dermatologist David Bank, MD. "It also causes blood vessels to open (dilate), which makes them a little leaky. This can lead to fluid leaking into the skin, giving a puffy or swollen appearance. In small amounts, these effects are usually negligible, but in larger quantities, especially over time, they take a toll. The effects can last up to a month because this is how long it can take for the skin to repair itself."

Booze causes more deaths than opioids in the US:

Quote:Quote:

In 2016, when there were 64,000 deaths in the US from the drug epidemic, there were 90,000 from alcohol (including accidents and homicides caused by inebriated people, as well as direct effects, mainly cirrhosis of the liver). Cigarette smoking is estimated to cause 480,000 deaths a year.

Opioid Nation

Of course, there are more people who drink alcohol than who use opioids, so let's not have another prohibition. The 18th amendment was almost as bad as the 19th.

You hit the nail on the head with this one. Have first-hand experience with the chronic problem of older women drinking wine and being in denial of it being a problem...because it's just wine.

Where it really raises red flags for me isn't when they drink socially on a night out but when I go over their place and I see half-empty wine glasses around the couch or on the end-table next to the bed. That's telling me they need to get buzzed literally every night just to get by in life.
