You mean Sante Fe, the red light district of Bogota? I wouldn't live there but the rent is probably really cheap and you score hookers and blow pretty easy.

My mistake, man. I meant Santa Fe, New Mexico and Alburquree, NM.

I didn't realize there were Santa Fes in Bogota and other Latin countries.

Horrible in my experience. The demographic there is retirees and high schoolers. There are few people between the ages of 18- roughly 35. I was there for about 9 months. The plaza has a few bars but the tourism is not geared toward a youthful crowd. Is mostly older couples.

Albuquerque has UNM. I didn't get down there much but there is no question that is where you will find most if any of the talent in the state.

Good luck, hope that helps.

It's ok, but it's called Albuquerque. It's bigger and better than Santa Fe, in my opinion. University of New Mexico is there with all of the attendant campus stuff. Sandia Mountains are a few minutes away.

Plenty of cowboys, Indians of all kinds, old Hispanics, Mexicans and eastern Anglos around.

In these remote places, the pickings on Seeking Arrangement can be surprisingly good.

The vibe I'm getting here is that there's nothing special about Santa Fe and Albuquerque.

I'm told from friends who worked in the research institutions around there that New Mexico is a particularly insular environment that isn't too comfortable for outsiders - they place a lot of cred on being a state local - so I'd question if one could really fit in there.

There is a group of old Hispanic families from the north of the state - when you see the names Baca, Martinez, Chavez, Lujan for examples - who are all embedded in government throughout the state. They are a distinct group. Then there are "cowboys" or "West Texans," Anglos from southeastern New Mexico.

There are a lot of hippies in NM compared to other places, it has the same attraction as Vermont to that group.

Also a lot of Indians living on reservations, they are in Albuquerque.

The weather is great, clear mountain skies 90% of the time, moderately cold winters.

It'd be seem like there must be a lot of hot white/Latin mixes too. Something I find really attractive.

How is Santa Fe as a place to game and live?

As someone who lives in the next state over in Texas, I can say that I'm pretty well versed on both areas. A lot of Texans spend time in New Mexico, especially during the summer. Both Santa Fe and Albuquerque are at higher elevations and reasonably cooler than Texas in the summer. Albuquerque's elevation is around 5,000 feet and Santa Fe is 60 miles north of Albuquerque and 7,000 feet.

The most important thing to remember is that these cities are actually quite different despite only being 60 miles apart. Santa Fe is a reasaonbly small city at about 80,000 people and Albuquerque is about 560,000 people. Game and lifestyle are going to the different when you have such a drastic population difference.

Santa Fe is a bad place for singles who are 18-39 and childless, especially if you were not raised there from ages 0-18. Santa Fe is a very insular place among the locals. Given that New Mexico is usually the state in the nation with the highest teen pregnancy rate, it's pretty common for a woman raised in Santa Fe to be pregnant by the time she turns 21. If you are a woman raised in Santa Fe, you get a high school education, and you never leave Santa Fe, it's almost a lock that you are a mom by your 25th birthday. Odds are that the baby daddy is some guy from your high school who could be a thug. So if you are a guy going to Santa Fe, you'd have to contend with a lot of young, single moms.

There's really not a lot in the way of employment options in Santa Fe. Santa Fe is the state capitol of New Mexico, so there are a ton of government jobs (city, county, state). However, it is really hard for outsiders not entrenched the whole Santa Fe thing to get these government jobs. The hospital is the other big employer there, and there's a small private sector.

Because of the limited economy, you wouldn't get a lot of non-local females who did not grow up in the area to transplant there for a career. There might be a few hospital nurses that are childless 20-somethings worth dating, but the options are limited. You also might get a cute elementary school teacher there, but usually those girls would move on to a bigger city like Dallas, Denver, or Phoenix after 2-3 years.

Most of the Santa Fe transplants are middle aged people or retirees. Especially retirees. The tourists who come up to Santa Fe are mostly couples, so there's really not gaming opportunities on tourist girls like a Miami or Las Vegas.

Albuquerque is a slightly different story.

Due to the fact that Albuquerque is much larger, it is much less insular than Santa Fe. Albuquerque has the University of New Mexico, so there are some college girls there. UNM is mostly females from Albuquerque and the smaller towns in New Mexico who are less likely to fall into the teenage pregnancy trap. UNM does get some spillover Texas girls due to the competitive atmosphere around college admissions in Texas.

As for the post college 20s/30s scene in Albuquerque, there is a little bit of one. Given the population, there is a little bit more economic opportunity. The women who grew up in the less populated parts of the state and managed to avoid the teen pregnancy trap and graduate UNM are the key demo of the post college scene in Albuquerque. Transplants from other states to Albuquerque who are single are rather limited. Some Albuquerque locals who made it through UNM will stay, but many will transplant to the Texas cities, Denver, Phoenix, or Southern California. The same could be about the more ambitious females from the Santa Fe or the smaller parts of the state.

The worst things about game and lifestyle in both cities is the teenage pregnancy trap, leading to a lot of single moms out there. Albuquerque has more economic opportunities, a good climate, and a much better male-female ratio than Denver (Menver), the big Texas cities, or Phoenix. Albuquerque's good single male- single female ratio isn't helped by the single mom factor, and it is not helped by the general lethargy of the population.

If you absolutely have to live in New Mexico, Albuquerque is the only choice, but I'd recommend going to the big cities in Texas, or Phoenix/Tucson in that general region instead. Tucson is pretty similar to Albuquerque. Tucson is known for being best for University of Arizona students and retirees, and a tough lifestyle/game place for phases of life in between. Try to avoid Denver at all costs due to the horrid male-female ratio there, though Phoenix and the Texas cities are general sausage fests too.

Good post SW15.

Don't forget all the gay people in Santa Fe too, with their disposable income, so, all the art galleries, and upscale doodad shops. The downtown is like a grown-up's Disneyland for people who didn't grow up. Dog and cat moms too. There is a store that only sells artisanal dog treats. A lot of the people you run into look like Siegfried and Roy without the magic.

Like you say, very insular, people often going nowhere, dried up women going to art galleries. Extremely provincial. Worst drivers of anywhere I have lived, so bad that you could try to predict exactly what idiotic maneuver the person in front of you was going to do and often be surprised.

Example, you see a guy slip over to the right hand turn only lane without signaling and think, "When the light changes, he is going to cut off the driver next to him without signalling and get back to going straight."

Nope. If you guessed, back up suddenly at 25 miles an hour using only his mirrors, and try to cut back into the lane that way, you are correct.

They are such bad drivers, that they don't know they are bad, so you never hear anyone beep their horn.

I could go a whole week, just running errands around town, and not see any good looking women the whole time, except for some sun weathered former beauties who either were sad and alone or lesbians now.

If you did see a good looking girl, she was probably in high school, so, a false positive.

Low low talent level.

Sometimes a few passable girls wandering around the campus of the tiny liberal arts college St. Johns from time to time.

You start making deals in your head and convincing yourself that horrible women aren't that bad because it's all you have to work with.

Population is 1/3 white, 1/3 hispanic, 1/3 Indian. Some of those Latinas are young stunners but, as has been pointed out, often pregnant by 20 and looking used up.

Also, there are way too many gangsters in this town for its reputation as an artsy fartsy paradise. You can get yourself all cut up for looking at the wrong teenager for over a second. It looks so harmless on the surface, but there are bangers blending into the Christmas crowds browsing the pretty downtown. Some of them are on the nature trails too. BOLO-CHOLO, boys, don't get complacent. Situational awareness is required at ATMs and everywhere else.

Coffee shop game is dismal, with often the only girl you would consider working behind the register and hating life having to cater to aging people whose specific coffee modifications are life and death issues.

Final thought. Don't take this personally SW15, but fuck all you Texans for coming in and driving real estate prices up and driving just as bad as we do but in massive motor homes, and treating us like a Disneyland for grown ups even though that is what we are. Fuck Arizonans too. I don't remember why though.

“The greatest burden a child must bear is the unlived life of its parents.”

I do not take that thing personally at all since I will not be living in Santa Fe in the future. I am also a transplant to Texas. My birth state now would probably consider me more of a Texan than a native of that state.

Texas gets a lot of New Mexico transplants. Many native New Mexicans realize how bad that state is and the lack of opportunity and move to Texas because it is so close.

You added some good points to my post. Santa Fe is just a really difficult spot to game and to live.

When was the last time you were in Denver?

Most surrounding counties in the metro are also closer to 99:101 or better male to female.

The post on Denver’s biological sex ratio takes into consideration all ages. There’s a surplus of elderly single women. For ages that actually matter, Denver is Menver. Huge imbalance. So many more single men than women.

Albuquerque & Santa Fe are at least better than Denver in that. Santa Fe isn’t good in attracting younger singles because there isn’t enough opportunity. Santa Fe is a weak dating pool.
