Floyd Mayweather: Boxer to fight kickboxer Tenshin Nasukawa in Japan

Would anyone seriously pay $50-100 to watch any fight he is in at this point?

What the fuck was that?

Floyd Mayweather floors Tenshin Nasukawa three times to win exhibition in first round

Quote:Quote:

Floyd Mayweather needed just 140 seconds to beat Japanese kickboxer Tenshin Nasukawa in an exhibition boxing bout worth a reported $9m.

Former five-weight world champion Mayweather, 41, was smiling during the short-lived contest in Tokyo as he floored the 20-year-old three times.

The fight, scheduled for three three-minute rounds, ended with Nasukawa in tears as his team threw in the towel.

Despite his latest comeback, Mayweather said afterwards he was "still retired".

"It was all about entertainment - we had a lot of fun," said the American, who beat UFC's Conor McGregor in a boxing match in August 2017. "They wanted this to happen in Japan, so I said 'why not?'"

The fight was delayed by several hours, with rumours circulating on social media that Mayweather might not show up, and that organisers were struggling to locate him.

Then, during an "unscheduled intermission", he promoted his Las Vegas strip club, urging people to go there to watch the event.

Both fighters were undefeated coming into the widely criticised contest, in which Mayweather had a 4kg (9lb) weight advantage.

And after beating Nasukawa, Mayweather insisted: "I'm still undefeated; Tenshin is still undefeated. Tenshin is a true champion and a hell of a fighter."

Addressing the Japanese fighter, he added: "Hold your head up high."

"I want the fans around the world to support Tenshin, he's a great guy and a great champion."

The rules were very strictly defined with kickboxer Nasukawa reportedly facing a $5m fine if he aimed a kick at his older opponent.

There were no judges, with only a knockout or technical knockout considered a victory.

Before the fight, former light-welterweight world champion Amir Khan said the bout was a "joke" and was "hurting boxing".

Reked.

This took me by surprise because it was said to cancelled. It also surprised me the kid couldn't even last a full round. I expected more but considering the weight difference and boxing rules Tenshin never stood a chance.

^^ That shit looked so fucking fake... I have the utmost respect for Mayweather's skills, but the way that some of those punches wobbled Tenshin look highly, highly suspect. Japanese fighting bodies are probably even more corrupt than their American counterparts, I'm guessing that there was some yakuza machinations behind this stuff.

I don't get why anyone gets excited about these fights, let alone pays to see them. It's like paying to see a chess grandmaster play poker against the world's world poker series champion. Utterly fake and uninspiring.

I don't disagree that Mayweather always had it in the bag from a skills/size/rules perspective. But it's hard to imagine Floyd's punches are that much stronger than any number of kicks Tenshin's taken over his years in his sport. And I'm a huge Mayweather supporter who maintains that his power has always been underrated.

But I probably should've watched the fight a few times before spouting off. That right that caused the second knockdown was super legit and you see Tenshin's head bounce off the canvas. But the first and third knockdowns looked middling, yet Tenshin was flopping around like Greg the Hammer Valentine in 80's era WWF.

Still maintaining a healthy amount of skepticism but I see your point, especially after the crying. Didn't even see that in the first watch-through as I disgustedly X'd out of youtube after the fight was called.

Fake. Seen more real fights in the WWE.

The Japs weren't going to let Floyd concuss their rising star.

Would have been great if the kid said fuck the fine and spinning heel kicked Floyd into another dimension. That I would have paid for.

The third knockdown looked a little odd, but it wasn't a fix. Floyd, despite looking completely unprepared, has levels and levels on the kid in terms of what he can do with straight-up boxing. He's Floyd Mayweather for god's sake. And, he was significantly bigger and doesn't care about going on the offensive with brittle hand bones when he only fights for a few rounds every few years.

All that said, a total farce.

Don't doubt the Japanese shenanigans.
Pride was rife with it.

Yet overall, 'tis amazing the difference between the average Joe on the street compared to a professional combat sports athlete.
Then again.
The difference 'tween the average combat sports athlete & the elite / champion level of combat sports athlete...

Floyd has some money issues if he has to fight in these "exhibitions". I mean he is probably one of the best fighters in his weight class but him doing these fights for cash is not looking good for him, even though very few people can brag about making $9 million in 2 minutes.

Please name the retired athlete that wouldn't have participated in something like this for 9 mill?

So fake.
A grandma who watched it would tell you it was fake.
The way Tenshin was diving when punched. Hilarious.

I truly hope this was a one of, and that Floyd is set for life! Mayweather being broke would literally have the Haters at the forefront singing Koumbaya. At this point... I believe the only way for Mayweather to make 20Mil + is to go take an ass whipping in the octogon from either Conor of Khabib! His elite boxing days are done... and he sure as hell knows it!

If they were going to have a fixed fight, then it would have made more sense to have the Japanese kickboxer beat Mayweather. They could use it as a springboard to set up a "real" fight as opposed to a exhibition with Mayweather and sell it as his chance to get a revenge, basically kinda like Rocky vs. Creed but in real life.

Yeah, his days of winning and winning and taking money must have really made him feel empty. His elite boxing days are over you say? Gosh, guess he may want to consider being extremely successful in something else or just enjoying the fruits of his labor.

2 of his last 3 fights he made over 250 mill in each, if he fought in the Octagon he would get over 300. In what world would you think he would have trouble making 20 mill in a fight?

The Japanese kickboxing/mma promotions are infamous for fight fixing, and half-assed PED testing.

That's why so few of their stars are rarely able to last a couple fights in the UFC. They've got padded records and they're not that good off the juice.

It's a good gig though. Take roids, dive, and get paid with masses of japanese women cheering on. I'd do it without any reservations.
