Beach Towns in Brazil or Mexico - Dez/Jan

I'm planning a trip to Latin America for the end of the year to hit up smaller beach towns. I'm especially interesting in places where the regular brazilians/mexicans go to spend their party holidays. Middle class chicks are my main target demographic. I speak fluent Spanish and good Portuguese. Plus, I'm tall, blue eyes and athletic = Latinas generally love me.

I know Mexico pretty well but never have been there during New Years. I'm looking at places like Puerto Vallarta, Mazatlan, Playa del Carmen.

In Brazil, I only have been in Floripa and want to see something new. Therefore I'm looking at places in Bahia like Morro de Sao Paulo, Itacare, Pipa, Porto Seguro, Canoa Quebrada.

Any recommendations?

It's hard to go wrong with that whole Southern Brasil, Eastern Uruguay Coast in January. Punta del Este is a money sink, but the rest of the salt water beaches in Uruguay aren't going to be bad. December through the second week of January a lot of the beaches in Uruguay are likely going to have more Brasileros and Brasileras than locals. Montevideo has what I find to be perfectly servicable beaches, though on the freshwater portion of the Rio de la Plata.

Depending on how much time you have, one plan could be arriving in Montevideo for the ExpoCannabis December 7th - 9th, and moving up the coast into Southern Brasil. This is a path many of the Brasilero/as take, and it comes with the benefit of increasing beach quality throughout your journey. If you are still in South America for Carnival you want to have definitely made it to Brasil, Carnival in Uruguay is all about Sadness and Suffering.

A lot of the beach resorts in Brazil are very costly during the NYE period. Trancoso, Pipa, Jericoacoara, Carneiros, São Miguel do Gostoso, Noronha, all attract mostly rich people from the Southeastern states.

Morro de São Paulo is definitely more middle class, but it has a strong fame of attracting hipsters. Same for Canoa Quebrada. Caraiva is also very hipsterish, while Itacaré is a surfer town. For middle class, I would throw in the mix Búzios in Rio state, and Maresias in SP state.

Not just that but VERY social circle oriented once you go to those places in the Northeast with travelers from the South/Southeast.

Pipa/Jeriocoara/Noronha = couples
Trancoso/Morro de São Paulo = social circles

I´ll recommend in Mexico Sayulita ( Surfspot getting hip between mexicans), close to Puerto Vallarta superchill. Otherwise, In Oaxaca, Puerto Escondido. A beach town, famous surf spot and quite cheap

I second Puerto Escondido, that place is 80%> Mexican/Latin surprisingly, the quality is decent but you have to be able to like more indigenous Mexicanas, you won't find many "white" ones there. I have never had so much enjoyment in a beach town, with your tallness, blue eyes, Spanish and game you will slay there like nearly no where else on earth. Check out my data sheet.

Found Brazilian beaches to be very underwhelming in general but the ones in the North were noticeably better than the ones in the South. Liked Mexican beaches a lot more, just nicer water.

Will add that Noronha is very coupled up, very few girls available and that place is absurdly expensive, great couples place though.

Damn, really? Which country's beach towns did you find so overwhelmingly better? I need to go there

A bit of a overstatement there, nowhere gets close to Brazilian beach culture in the world honestly (especially Rio).
Mexican beaches do look better I agree on that.

Thanks for the input so far. I'm leaning towards Mexico since I really like the country. I would have bought the tickets already but it's just that the Brasileiras are hotter on average, way hotter.

I know Puerto Escondido already. For sure a nice place, but a bit too "surf-centric" for me. You can only swim in the water of some beaches there, if I remember correctly. Also, the entire coast line down there tends to be a bit too hippy for my taste.

Fair enough, it is very hippy. The first 30 mins on arrival I was offered a joint by the hostel owner. Yes you have to go around the bay to swim that's right. I heard Mazatlan is the shit and has the best women in a Mexican beach town. Also, Acapulco is a place which you should go if you wanna go wild, the top naco and fresa talent from CDMX comes there to party. You will probably be one of the only foreigners. However, it also has the 3rd highest murder rate in the world so it depends how much balls you have, although everyone tells me it is safe in reality.

Playa del Carmen attracts a lot of younger crowds from CDMX. Nice beaches and good swimming.

Mazatlan is super fun, and its a bigger city. Beaches are OK, some incredible surf out of town too. It has some of the hottest women in Mexico too.

Acapulco is a bit of a faded glam town from the 80s and 90s. There is still some fun to be had, but you can really feel its charm has faded.

PV is cool, it attracts more of the Guadalajara crowd. Sayulita to the north is nice and chill gringo town.

Michoacan is nothing but wild coast all the way. If you have camping gear, there are endless options. Some little shacks on the beach in some places can get busy over the holidays. A bit more Mexican hippy/surfer.

Baja is awesome, again especially if you camping gear.

La Paz, Baja California is solid. I did some epic diving and fishing there and there's world class surf not a long drive away.

Good thread.

I'm going to Brazil in that period and also wondering where would be the best place to spend last week of Dec & first week of Jan.

Does anyone have a recent info on Guarapari?

Old intel from the forum says it's good during Brazilian summer attracting a lot of girls from the whole Espirito Santo and Victoria on weekends but how about a week before/after New Year's Eve?

^^ Lots of people i.e. girls from Minas Gerais state travel to Guarapari for NYE, I suppose there will be a decent party scene with many mineiras there.

Anyone familiar with Ilha Grande?

The spot seems to have amazing scenery and is close to Rio but I was wondering about the vibe during NYE. Is it more like wild beach party place or couples and western backpackers chilling?

Could you tell us more about the diving and fishing there? I did some fishing in Puerto Vallarta, caught mostly dorados and small tuna, I did some diving near PLaya Del Carmen, mostly cave diving in cenotes. I didn't think that there's be good diving on the pacific coast, I like to combine the two activities so am curious to know more. Also, what's the pussy situation like?

It´s mainly couples and backpackers.

My suggestion for your trip would be:

Week before NYE:
Rio de Janeiro. Christmas is a family oriented holiday, and people stay home, so tourist spots (such as Ilha Grande or Guarapari) are empty and without much to do. In the other hand, in big cities like Rio, you may find crowded bar and parties to attend even in Christmas Eve.

NYE and week after:
* If you want to check Ilha Grande: Spend NYE in Rio (tons of all inclusive parties, tons of tourists from other parts of the country, very easy to make out and bang hot chicks) and then head to Ilha Grande in the week after to chill and enjoy nature.
* If not: Go to Buzios. It's a fancy beach town 2 hours from Rio. Also tons of parties and tourists to enjoy NYE, and also lots of wonderful beaches to chill and explore in the week after.

I had to postpone my trip because of some shit. I eventually will go to Mexico. Plan is to travel from Guadalajara to PV and then north to Mazatlan. Afterwards I'd like to see a bit more of Sinaloa and some mountains. Not much info on that region on the forum. Have any of you guys been in that area?
