Don't Bang Mazatlán.
I spent three days in Mazatlán before Christmas. I was supposed to fly back on the 27th, but changed my flight to come back today (4 days early) because I hated it there so much.
Me
5'8.5", ripped physique, white American, Spanish so fluent that it's nearly bilingual (many Mexicans are dumbfounded by me and can't believe I'm American).
Expert at online game. Intermediate at daygame and nightgame.
GAME
I should note that I have never gotten more IOIs when I was out and about. Wherever I went, I was getting eyefucked and smiled at. Girls here loved my look, apparently.
Also, yes, there are plenty of hot women. The quality is the best I have seen in México. The problem is that they're nigh-inaccessible.
Online Game
Might as well not exist.
For a city with ~400K population, there are only 255 female Tinder profiles and there are 2184 male profiles. That's an 8.56 to 1 ratio. Holy shit.
Despite the low number of profiles, I matched with 14 girls in two weeks (was pipelining before). Got two numbers but wasn't able to make it work logistically.
Bumble has about 15 profiles.
Happn had nothing.
Daygame
Daygame in Mazatlán is a near-impossibility. I have daygamed in ~10 cities around the world, including Bangalore, India, and Mazatlán was the hardest.
I stayed in Centro in an AirBnB next to the mercado and while volume was extremely high, quality was extremely low.
In the ~8 hours I spent daygaming, I only spotted a handful of girls hot enough to be worth approaching (7s or higher).
Even if you do see a hot girl out, she's logistically inaccessible. Every hot girl I saw was:
- married
- carting around a kid
- with several friends
- with her mom
Girls just don't go out alone in Mexico. Also, talking to strangers is frowned upon, especially on crowded streets. Girls were very scared of me.
In two days, I did about 8 approaches in total and grabbed one number.
Nightgame
Probably your best bet here.
The spots:
Joe's Oyster Bar. The spot everyone recommends and the only place where gringos go (though I was one of about 10 foreigners out of 300 people the night I was there). It's 70 pesos cover and you get two beers for free. Quality in here is busted. Only saw a couple girls that were 7 or higher. Almost every girl is in a mixed social circle. The music here is also way too loud and people are way too drunk and pushy.
Clasico. Rolled up outside this nightclub and social circle gamed my way in with four young girls who were excited to meet an American. Once I got inside I learned this is a tables-only club and you have to know someone to get in. Apparently this is common in Mexico. They just go out to a club with their friends and pay a bunch of money to barely talk to anyone else. I immediately had social proof with my group, so I went around talking to all the tables, but no girls really bit here. Then I found out all the girls I was hanging with were 16 and 17 with fake IDs. No thanks, Jeff. Also: everyone smokes like dogs here. Disgusting club atmosphere.
El mal del puerco. I approached two girls outside eating a hot dog and started to game one of them. Won them over and they invited me inside to hang out with their group. Just like Clasico, this is a bar where Mexicans only go to hang out with their friends. The one girl claimed her friend liked me, but once inside she started dancing with some other guy, and I hated this place (music was way too loud and you couldn't hear anyone) so I called it a night.
Life en Español. Walked in here and pretty much walked right out. A bar with a bunch of large groups in it.
Places I didn't go but heard were also options:
- La Consentida
- Privé
Forget about any place in El Centro Historico mentioned in the original post. El Albur, Dos de Tres, etc. None of these are good for pickup. Too small.
MAZATLAN ITSELF
Apart from Game, Mazatlán itself has several issues:
The food just isn't really that good. Out of everywhere in Mexico, I consistently had the worst food here.
It's spread out. In Zona Dorada, if you want to venue hop, you have to take Uber or a taxi. Otherwise you're looking at a 20-40 minute walk between venues.
The Centro Historico is dirty and crowded except for a few blocks.
There's really nothing to do here other than walk the Malecón, go to the Faro, or walk around the 8 blocks of the Centro Historico.
Random Tips
There's a gym called Master Gym where you can train for a week for 100 pesos ($5). The owner is nice, but the gym itself is basically falling apart. It probably hasn't had new equipment since the 1960s.
Don't take a taxi to/from the airport, they'll overcharge you. The airport is way outside the city. When you land, start walking the 1km main road out to the highway with your luggage. Put your thumb out and a driver will pick you up and give you a ride to the highway. From here, take a bus (25 pesos) to the city.
