Discussion and conclusions: The results of this study indicate that social anxiety rather than sensation seeking or gender is a major factor affecting the use of Internet-dating applications for obtaining sexual partners.

In before "Look at the last names" and "This is an interesting (((study)))".

But seriously. For reference, here is a copy of a version of the SAST. As you can see, the score will be almost entirely dependent on the subject's view of sex. A deeply religious guy who got a hand job once may be classed as a sex addict, while a guy raised by hippie bohemians in SF who regularly engages in anonymous, Eyes Wide Shut orgies is not classed a sex addict.

To the social anxiety aspect. I don't know. I'm going to put aside anything I have studied or read and base this solely on my recent, extensive foray in to online dating. I met a mix of girls. I would say it was pretty 80/20. 20% were so "social" that they would come straight to my hotel room. The remaining 80% were definitely awkward. I mentioned this in my original data sheet, but I didn't really explain. I was noticing a lot of silence, inability to maintain eye contact, and general reticence.

But let's be honest. The younger (plugged in) generations seem to exhibit a lot of this behavior. Go in to a Best Buy and try to maintain a normal conversation with some of the spergy blueshirts. It is difficult, to say the least.

Finally. Sample size = 279.

Currently out of office.

Also:

Among females, 17.9% reported sexual abuse during childhood or adolescence, whereas among males the rate was much lower (0.8%)

So we have 1 of 6 of the female participants claiming to have been abused. Seriously?
That's another evidence that we have lying whores on that sample.

And for the conclusion:
Quote:Quote:

A comparison of sex addiction scores between those who used dating applications (mean = 5.15, SD = 3.49) and those who did not use (mean = 4.21, SD = 3.83) showed a significant between group difference in sex addiction scores [t(1, 277) = 2.086, p < .05].
So there is a difference, but it is way smaller than the STDV. That is not how one differentiate the scores.

And finally, if one looks at limitations, you find so much lacking. Examples:
1. Sample size and how it relates to the population.
2.
Quote:Quote:

we have not assessed the frequent use of the dating application and that may be a confounding variable
That is a must. If someone is a sex addict you would expect him/her to use it more frequently.
3. Go to the beginning: 50.8% of the men used the dating apps and 68.2% of the women. That is an imbalance.
4.

The questionnaires were advertised online in social networks and forums that were dedicated for dating and sex.
Wait, What?
You went to the places where people look for sex and asked them about it? I sense a BIAS storm coming.

Makes sense (anxiety) if you consider the amount of flaking...

Online dating blows. Swipe apps have ruined it.

At least with cold approaches, you're basically already on the date.

The worst that happens is she walks to another table or politely tells you to get lost.

the main issue with online dating is that girls are only looking to use it to boost their self esteem and value.a lot of hot girls do not even want to go on a date...waste of time

Online dating is fine. I banged over 50 girls over the course of 2-3 years on swipe apps alone, and a good chunk of them were damn good chicks. Currently I'm in an LTR with a girl I met on OKCupid 2 years ago. It certainly has changed the culture of dating, though.

Dude's naysaying swipe apps either don't use them and/or don't have success with them.

Tell them too much, they wouldn't understand; tell them what they know, they would yawn.
They have to move up by responding to challenges, not too easy not too hard, until they paused at what they always think is the end of the road for all time instead of a momentary break in an endless upward spiral
