I'm currently up to date with One Piece and the story is about to enter the end-game (knowing Oda's schedule and remaining arcs, it'll take at least 5-10 years).

Oda has stated that the story is 80% complete. So the last 20% of the story could be done in at least 300-500 chapters.

There were some characters from Big Mom's crew that demonstrated the true power of a Yonko crew, as well as giving Luffy, Sanji, Nami, Chopper & Brook new power ups.

Luffy is now seen by the One Piece world as a serious worldwide threat after what he did during Chapters 825-902, and the recently revealed things back from Dressrosa contributed to his new bounty. A certain character embellished the events they witnessed and Luffy's 'planning' of this mission. Luffy obviously doesn't plan without help & that's known since the whirlpool incident from Chapter 2. His worldwide perception has changed from a super rookie to a top tier threat.

As for the long awaited Reverie: [Image: hype.gif][Image: mindblown.gif][Image: mindblown2.png][Image: mindblown3.gif].
It's best to read the chapters (903-908) yourself since the reactions speak for itself.

If you haven't caught up, you should read the previous chapters now [SPOILER]since the Straw Hats are currently in Wano to prepare the Ninja-Pirate-Mink-Samurai Alliance for the battle against Kaido.

I'm also reading Bokutachi wa Benkyou ga Dekinai (We Never Learn/We Can't Study). It's about a high school guy who studies hard to enter university & is tasked by a teacher to be the new tutor for two female classmates. He is so focused on helping the girls improve their grades that he is oblivious of his effect on the (4 and counting) girls & a certain 'Ice Queen' teacher.

Essentially it's a romantic comedy harem manga in which the male main character is either acting oblivious or masking his reactions to some of the ladies' advancements and expressions.

Guess which one is the teacher:

Young Nariyuki could end up here if he finds and utilises game.

The One Punch Man manga is currently on the Monster Association arc, which means that it's almost caught up to the last released webcomic chapter.

I've read a life time of manga being half Japanese.

The best all rounder ones I've seen were

Slam dunk (basketball, slice of life, comedy)
Gantz (sci fi horror, aliens)
Attack on Titan (zombie-like titans eat people)
Hino tori series by tesuka osamu (characters in various time periods get eternal life)
JoJo's bizarre adventures (series 1-4)

Honorable mentions due to popularity:

Naruto (pre-ninja war)
Dragonball (pre-cell saga)
One peace (I think it's trash but it's #1)

Code Geass was compelling but it was an anime conception, not a manga.

There's just too much out there. I tried narrowing down the list to the epics.

My favorites:

1) One Piece - since I have been too busy for last two years, I am not up to date, stopped straight after fishermen island arc, but I am planning on catching up. It is my favorite one because the author Eichiro Oda is defiantly red pilled and understands what masculinity and honor is. Despite seemingly being a children's tale there are moments there can have made me cry and some moments are very deep. The characters are very interesting. Also it is amazing how long it lasts while keeping up the quality (the fishmen island arc was the first boring arc ever and I know it gets better again afterwards).

2) Full Metal Alchemist - pretty much the best Government conspiracy tale there is (ties for me with the computer game Deus Ex). Therefore it is very similar to reality in a spooky eerie way. I once read an article where some person demonstrated that if you substitute the fictional alchemy with real world usury - you get a perfect reveal of the dark world we live in. The ending is mind blowing.

3)Death Note - some smart and intelligent piece of reading, nice detective story.

Some others I have read and found only moderately interesting:

Fairy Tail (Interesting at start until you realize that unlike other manga the main character never loses in an annoying, predictable way)

Dragonball (The first chapters are very funny, later the fighting gets very cool and sayans look cool, but became boring when everyone became OP and strong enough to blow up planets, from that moment on it was just more and more of the same)

Hellsing (cool style but the main character is OP and thus get boring soon, I much rather liked Alexander Anderson then Alucard)

Fist of North Star (again the problem is main character being OP, not ever getting hurt not even physically but even in emotions, as well as every other character dying too soon, it also annoys that the fate of every character is predetermined by the stars)

Always been willing to read Naruto bet somehow never got around to it. Now after all these years it seems like a too big piece of reading to undertake and not worth it.

I am not a fan of Japanese animation in general, but Kaiji is one of those rare works that appears maybe once every 100 years regardless of the underlying medium.

Besides having a fantastic storyline, Kaiji delves pretty deeply into certain life and risk psychologies that I had previously thought were rather difficult to explain to others unless they had also lived through them. The author must have tried and succeeded at being a professional gambler or some variation of such at some point in his life, otherwise he would not have understood some of these themes.

I also really like Akagi, by the same author. Most are going to get something out of it, even if you don't particularly enjoy or understand Mahjong. The Mahjong is just a pretext to talk about psychology, anyway. Also, the Akagi 'narrator' has an interesting way with words:

"The sand in the depths of Hell is magical sand. Touching it can reverse fortune and one's own destruction."

Together, Kaiji & Akagi are my two favourite animes/mangas (the mangas are still going).

And regarding this thread, I haven't seen much of Attack on Titan, but what I have seen, I liked.

Friends of mine have gotten really sucked into that, it's definitely a unique story and concept.

I saw a little of it and it seemed silly. What's so special about the story?

The basic premise sounds pretty basic, there's man-eating Titans devouring people and they are kept outside 3 large concentric walls. Inside you have simple people that appear to be from the middle ages believing that humanity has been wiped out outside the walls. There's a lot of politics and mystery surrounding the history of the world and the protagonists slowly uncover the truth of the world but at great costs.
